Background by Slappy, so I hope he/she doesn't mind.
Cap'n Slappy directs a game of Captain's Cannonade at the Pirate Guys' performance at the Franklin Institute Friday, Set. 19. The game takes unsuspecting couples from the audience – the man assumes the position and becomes the cannon, the woman is the powder monkey. At the command "Fire!" from Slappy, the powder monkey touches off the cannon by spanking. The cannon lets out the mightiest "Aarrr!" he can muster, and the winner (the loudest) is determined by a vote of the audience. We have never seen it fail. Audiences LOVE watching women spank men, especially if the audiences have been drinking. We don't know why this is, but it is. In this picture, the couple is our old pal Brohm (met him at PyrateCon) and his lovely wench.

I picked up tons of sticker sheets from @uncle_slappys tonight. Insanely affordable, super quality ink and vinyl, and incredible turn around time (I just dropped off the order on Sunday). Follow on instagram @uncle_slappys or email at uncle.slappys@yahoo.com. So good!!
The colonnaded front steps of the Franklin Institute were painted with a map of the Caribbean, a very cool intro to the "Real Pirates" exhibition inside. Slappy and Ol' Chumbucket are standing approximately at St. Croix – which Black Sam Bellamy briefly used as a base of operations.
I recieved this at CheeseVention 8 and thought it was too cute :D Beach Bear looks highly impressed by Mitzi's Hula Dancing... and he's got a nice view of her rear end! Beach Bear, you pervert! XDXDXD lol jk. I love Beach Bear :3 CV8 was fun, but things really heated up when Mike's air compresser caught on fire! While my mom and I were leaving (well, headed that direction) all the lights went out... because Mike had to pull the main power to figure out what was going on. The heat, along with running Billy Bob and Looney for like, ever and watching PTT bots as long as we could bear in the garage, make it catch fire. :( Poor Captain!
A roll of Ektar 100 loaded into a pinhole camera eight years ago. Used for three shots during a camping trip, then left on a camera shelf for years. Where at some point during that time, the “shutter” was opened and exposed a single shot for god knows how long. It sat for another few years unused. A year ago, I took it to the Rockridge bart station one day after work to skate a bit and kill off the roll. While I did take a few exposures, I didn’t finish the roll so it still sat for another year until I finally pulled the film it and got it developed this past week.
While the first shot was exposed properly. The unknown amount of time that shutter was opened fried the rest of the roll, and caused the burnt out look along the middle of the photo. Kinda random, kinda artsy and mostly happy little accidents. And this merge of two different shots is the result.

Slappy Hooper: The Wonderful Sign Painter (1946) tells the American tall tale of Slappy Hooper, who paints signs so realistic that birds try to eat an advertisement for bread and a billboard of a hot stove causes a nearby building to catch fire. This picture book edition by Arna Bontemps (1902-1973) and Jack Conroy (1898-1990) is based on a folk tale Conroy collected as part of the WPA's Federal Writers' Project.
Arna Bontemps was a poet and novelist who was an important figure during the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s.
Jack Conroy was the first worker-writer in America, bringing a kind of socialist realism to American fiction.

Cap'n Slappy solicits audience applause to determine the winner of the Dress Like a Pirate contest, part of the fun on Talk Like a Pirate Day 2008 at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. These are the four finalists – the two wenches, the Jack Sparrow doppleganger, and at the bottom right, the wee nipper who ended up winning. Good costume and just so cute the audience wouldn't be denied. His mother latter bought him a copy of our book, even though we told her it's not for kids. Wildly inappropriate for the wee ones. Mom said she'd hold it for him 'til he was older. In signing it to the boy, Cap'n Slappy wrote, "Happy 16th Birthday!"
