St. Louis' venerable Central West End Neighborhood seen from a mid-rise apartment building on Lindell Blvd.

This is one of my favorite pictures I took from my visit.

The last light of the day casts a warm glow over tall palm trees silhouetted against a twilight sky, revealing a serene atmosphere in a coastal city.

Yes, yes - to some these are nosebleeds; to me, they (season ticket seats) are perfect.

This weekend we headed to the soccer stadium to check out the view and take the skycar ride to the top platform. Needless to say you get quite a view from the peak of the structural truss that supports the unique stadium that was home to one of the World Cup venues in 2010.

This shot is looking south back at the heart of the city of Durban and the downtown area and beaches. Suncoast Casino is in the foreground on the left.

A scenic view of Topkapı Palace with the shimmering sea visible on one side and the palace’s historic boundary walls extending outward from the structure. The blend of ocean, stone architecture, and elevated palace grounds highlights the strategic beauty of the Ottoman residence, offering a timeless perspective over Istanbul’s waters.

Wolf Point is an open piece of land(and a parking lot for a nearby building), with a path leading down here from Orleans St. this is at the northeast corner of where the North Branch of the Chicago River and the main Chicago River meet, and is slated for a 3 building residential development.

it hasn't been approved yet, and the last I heard was that the developer was slightly revising their plans, due to aldermanic and neighbor criticisms that were made during a zoning hearing(I believe). The Lake St. Control Tower was demolished on 1/15/13, sadly.

Discover the heart of America in the majestic Chicago skyline, where each building tells a story steeped in history. As you gaze upon this grand panorama, you’re not just looking at structures; you’re witnessing a timeline of architectural innovation and cultural milestones.

At the forefront stands the Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower), once hailed as the tallest building in the world. Its bold, black silhouette is an unmistakable symbol of Chicago’s sky-high ambitions. Nearby, the neo-Gothic spires of Tribune Tower whisper tales of bygone eras when newspapers were kings.

The Aon Center’s sleek marble façade reflects more than just sunlight; it mirrors Chicago’s resilience, having been reinvented after facing structural challenges. The Crain Communications Building (Diamond Building) cuts through tradition with its angled top—a modernist mark on this historical canvas.

Chicago isn’t just about reaching for the skies; it’s about embracing diversity in design. From Art Deco masterpieces like The Carbide & Carbon Building—adorned with gold leaf—to Mies van der Rohe’s minimalist marvels that redefine simplicity and strength, every corner offers a new perspective.

Stroll along Michigan Avenue or take to Lake Shore Drive at dusk when golden hour paints these giants with hues that dance across mirrored glass and weathered stone alike. It’s not just sightseeing—it’s time traveling through layers of ingenuity.

Join us in celebrating this urban marvel—a testament to human creativity and engineering prowess that continues to evolve before our very eyes.

Fusing haughty elegance with down-to-earth grit in one beautifully colonnaded medieval grid, Bologna is a city of two intriguing halves. On one side is a hard-working, hi-tech city located in the super-rich Po valley where suave opera-goers waltz out of regal theatres and reconvene in some of the nation's finest restaurants and trattorias. On the other is a Bolshie, politically edgy city that hosts the world's oldest university and is famous for its graffiti-embellished piazzas filled with mildly inebriated students swapping Gothic fashion tips.

Looking west toward downtown Minneapolis. This is while I was driving on southbound I-35W on the bridge over the Mississippi River. This photo was taken on Monday 23 August 2004.

Sadly, tonight (Wednesday 1 August), this same bridge collapsed due to some structural failure. I can't believe that I've driven this same bridge...and it's now seriously damaged.

Prayers go out to those affected by this tragedy.
