Clouds thick with rain covered the sky, when I visited Tawhai Falls at Tongariro Nationalpark, New Zealand.

It was here where the scene of Gollum is eating his fish was filmed for the movie »The Lord of the Rings«.

It was so gloomy I literally was waiting for Gollum to turn up again.

But that was impossible because according to the script he fell into the firepits of Mount Doom, which looms around the corner.

Dicke Regenwolken zogen übers Land, als ich den Tawhai Wasserfall im Tongariro Nationalpark in Neuseeland besuchte.

Hier wurde die Szene gedreht, in der Gollum im ersten Teil von »Herr der Ringe« seinen Fisch isst.

Es war so dunkel, dass ich unwillkürlich darauf gewartet habe, dass Gollum wieder dort auftaucht. Das wäre aber unmöglich, weil er laut Skript in den um die Ecke liegenden Mount Doom gefallen ist.

Das in Kauf nehmen einer Verurteilung ist ein Teil des Prozesses der Ausprägung eines eigenen Stiles. Der Wiedererkennungswert ist oft höher als der der sich oft mit im Sichtfeld befindlichen Werbung. Kunst hat etwas mit Marketing zu tun und Graffiti ist die Subversion von beidem. Graffiti als Aktionskunst, als eine Art von Performance zu beschreiben, hat zu interessanten Diskussionen geführt. Die Widersprüche wurden deutlich, ebenso wie die Überschneidungen. Zuordnungen und Eingrenzungen setzen Grenzen, ebenso wie Ausgrenzungen. Verklärungen sind jedoch nicht minder überflüssig wie die Versuche, Regeln in der Kreativität definieren zu wollen. Ich nehme mir meine Freiheit. Und setzte mir gleichzeitig selbst Grenzen...“

About the photo: Misty morning on the Ochsenkopf slopes.

On a slightly misty September morning I was walking up a meadow at the Ochsenkopf when I took this photo. This meadow is part of a ski slope in winter. With a height of slightly more than 1000 meter the Ochsenkopf is one of the highest mountains of the Fichtelgebirge in the north of Bavaria.

Back then I had a 3 MP Panasonic wich is pretty noisy even at the just the ISO 150 used here.

About the image post processing:

I used the gimp levels tool to move the histogram to more shadows. This avoids the purple tint that Picasa I feel lucky tool introduced in my previous version of this photo.

The smart sharpening gimp fu-script detects the edges in the photo and only applies sharpening there. I think there are a lot of edges in this photo.

Hier sehen sie den Porsche 356 B 2000 GS Carrera GTL Abarth, bei dem der 1,6-Liter-Motor auf zwei Liter Hubraum aufgebohrt wurde und so rund 99 kW / 135 PS leistet.

Neben dem Antrieb spielte natürlich auch Carlo Abarths Expertise eine wichtige Rolle bei den Erfolgen des in die Jahre gekommen Sportwagens (immerhin wurde der Porsche 356 seit 1948 gebaut).

Allerdings hat diese Rennversion fast nichts mehr mit dem ursprünglichen Fahrzeug gemein. Der österreichisch-italienische Leichtbau-Experte schmiss alles aus dem Auto, was in den Verdacht stand, Gewicht zu verursachen:
Die Dämmung flog raus (deswegen wandelt man immer am Hörsturz, wenn man den 356er Abarth ausdreht), im Cockpit befindet sich nur das Nötigste und die Insassen zwängen sich in einfache Plastik-Sitzschalen.

Die Hülle besteht aus Aluminium und wurde von Hand bei den Karosseriespezialisten von Zagato zusammengebaut.

Also wiegt der Porsche 356 B 2000 GS Carrera GTL nur noch 778 Kilogramm, war damit circa 120 Kilogramm leichter als der Normalo-Carrera und bis zu 220 km/h schnell. Die Abmessungen unterscheiden sich ebenfalls deutlich: Der Abart 356er ist 13 Zentimeter niedriger und kürzer sowie zwölf Zentimeter schmaler.

So strahlend die Siege des Porsche 356 B 2000 GS Carrera GTL Abarth auch heute noch klingen, die Geburt dieses legendären Sportwagens war von heftigen Wehen begleitet.

Zunächst ging alles ganz reibungslos: Während der IAA 1959 trafen sich Ferry Porsche und sein Chef-Ingenieur Klaus von Rücker im Hotel "Frankfurter Hof", um mit Carlo Abarth die Zusammenarbeit zu besiegeln. Der gebürtige Wiener hatte damals schon einen exzellenten Ruf, wenn es darum ging, Automobilen ein paar Extra-Vitamine zu verpassen. Eigentlich war der Tuner auf Fiat und Simca spezialisiert, nahm den Auftrag aus Zuffenhausen jedoch freudestrahlend an.

Karl Abarth (so sein Geburtsname) war es gewohnt, autokratisch zu agieren und tat seine Meinung bisweilen auch lautstark kund. Es entwickelte sich eine Geschäftsposse mit Eifersüchteleien und Lieferproblemen. Aus der Hochzeit in Hessen wurde schnell eine Seifenoper voller Eifersüchteleien und Kompetenzgerangel, die auch als Skript für eine Vorabendserie herhalten könnte. Dennoch wurden 21 Modelle des Leichtbau-Renners gebaut, der sich seinen Platz in der Porsche-Walhalla verdiente.
