From time to time we need to view an image like this to put us in the overall Nature's context. The minuscule humans facing the Forces of Nature there, are like ants (please enlarge the image to see them on the edge of the cliff). Their presence provides scale to what you are looking at. The sheer size of the scene is tremendous.
Aldeyjarfoss (the waterfall) is certainly a beautiful sight but there are other beautiful views there, as this image shows. I invite you to take a look and see the details of the amazing basalt columns that follow the river after the waterfall. Nature at its best! To think that volcanic action and the passing of time created this marvel is awesome!

This robin-sized nightbird is common over much of the east, including in city parks and shady suburbs, where many human residents are unaware they have an owl for a neighbor. The owl spends the day roosting in holes or in dense cover, becoming active at dusk. Despite the name, screech-owls do not screech; the voice of this species features whinnies and soft trills.

Macro Mondays: Bread and Topping
When I sighted this one it instantly flew off. I slowly followed. After a few more fly offs and follows, it stopped and appeared to size me up. After determining I was a tad too large to eat, it bobbed its head a few times and disappeared into the thick woods.

Medium-sized songbird that produces one of eastern Australia’s most familiar rainforest calls. Olive brown above, with white throat patch contrasting strongly with black face, crest, and breast. Juvenile lacks white patch. Feeds on the ground, most commonly in dense vegetation of rainforest and other wet forests. Very vocal. Male sings “oooooo...doo-doo-doo–whipp!” and female responds “pew pew.” (eBird)

Heard frequently in rainforests of eastern Australia, we quickly learned the song. At O'Reilly's, they are very tame and would come to people for food. In fact, a few times they were too close to photograph, even with the 100-400mm lens. The main problem is that they love the deepest, darkest parts of the forest, so very noisy and dark originals. This photo has been significantly edited to bring out the bird from the gloom.

This was taken in White Sands National Park, New Mexico. At 275 square miles it is the largest gypsum sand desert in the world. I was reflecting on the magnitude of the landscape when I looked down and saw the beetle.
Size really is a relative concept.

See the first comment section for a closer look at the grasshopper.
Romalea is a genus of grasshoppers native to the Southeastern and South-central United States. Its single species is Romalea microptera, known commonly as the eastern lubber grasshopper, Florida lubber, or Florida lubber grasshopper.
It is the most distinctive grasshopper species within the Southeastern US, and is well known for its size and its unique coloration. It can reach nearly 3 inches (8 cm) in size.
It is the type genus and species of the relatively new family Romaleidae and tribe Romaleini, and was long known as Romalea microptera before being moved to Romalea guttata. After new research, though, the remaining names (including guttata) have been marked as nomina oblita and microptera takes priority once more.
R. microptera inhabits regions west of North Carolina to Tennessee, in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas, and throughout Florida, Missouri, and Arizona. They live in open pinewoods, weedy vegetation, and weedy fields. - Wikipedia

Hepatic Tanagers (Piranga flava) are medium-sized, sexually dimorphic songbirds with a dark bill. Males are red with dull red on the wings and back. Females are yellow-gray above and brighter yellowish below, with a bit gray on the face.
Formerly placed in the tanager family (Thraupidae), Hepatic tanagers and other members of its genus are now classified in the cardinal family (Cardinalidae). The common name hepatic means "liver-coloured", namely, brownish-red.
There are three subspecies groups, which may be separate species:
1) Hepatica group.
2) Flava group.
3) Lute group: resident from Costa Rica to northern and western South America in highland forest edges (As the one in the photo)

Taking this shot personal safety never crossed my mind
And why should it?
But imagine if mother nature had played her cards differently...
Making this brute of a bird twice it's size and us humans half our size!
It'd make this a truly terrifying sight
Canadian Goose.
Two sizes of Canadian Geese exist. A small 22 to 26 inch and a large 35-45 inch version. They have a brownish body with a black head, long blackneck and which cheeck patch. The smaller version has a shorter neck and lacks the cheeck patch.
They inhabit lakes, bays, rivers and marshes. They often feed in open grasslands and stubble fields.
They range from Alaska each to Baffin Island and south to California, Illinoise and Massachusetts. They winter south to northern Mexico and the Gulf Coast. Widespread as a semi-domesticated bird in city parks and on reservoirs.
Kensington Metropark, Livingston County, Michigan.
You can't have too many wooden spoons. Actually I've noticed that there are several different sizes in this image. The spoon tidy's and the baking packages. Well there you go.
While outside watering plants in the backyard a couple of days ago, I noticed this large Grasshopper that was sprayed with water and jumped on the bricks of our house for safety. I went to get my camera and take some macro images of this Texas sized Grasshopper. I must say the details on this Grasshopper are Awesome and if you look close enough you will see the water drop. Hope Y'all like it.Lol:Gaston (aka Gasssman)

"Four centuries of this damned immortality
Yet, I did not ask to be made. Why ?
I will never again feel your sun upon my face

This mid-sized laughingthrush is found along the Himalayas and can be identified by the combination of the black cap and band on the brown tail. The underparts are greyish while the upperparts have scale like feather patterning. A distinctive pale loreal patch of buff colour and a broad dark moustachial stripe which borders the rufous chin and ear coverts are identifying features. There is however considerable geographic variation in plumage. The western population (occidentalis of western and central Himalayas) being greyer and paler making the dark patterns stand out in greater contrast. The eastern populations assamensis have a paler throat and the markings on the throat are much less marked. The populations in Meghalaya (rufitincta) has an orange wash on the underside from the throat to the belly.
It is found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand, Tibet and Vietnam. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.
