From time to time we need to view an image like this to put us in the overall Nature's context. The minuscule humans facing the Forces of Nature there, are like ants (please enlarge the image to see them on the edge of the cliff). Their presence provides scale to what you are looking at. The sheer size of the scene is tremendous.
Aldeyjarfoss (the waterfall) is certainly a beautiful sight but there are other beautiful views there, as this image shows. I invite you to take a look and see the details of the amazing basalt columns that follow the river after the waterfall. Nature at its best! To think that volcanic action and the passing of time created this marvel is awesome!

Medium-sized goose with two strikingly different color morphs. White morph generally more common. Adults have black wingtips, pink bill and legs, and often show yellowish staining on the head. Juveniles have dull brownish bill and legs and variable grayish smudging on body and wings. Dark morph adults are dark slaty-gray with a white face; juveniles are entirely dark. Typically found in flocks, sometimes numbering into the thousands, but individuals may be found with other geese species. Occurs in fields, marshes, and lakes during migration and winter; breeds on Arctic tundra. Compare with Ross’s Goose, which is like a cuter miniature version of Snow Goose. Pay attention to the bill: Snow Goose has a longer bill with a more curved border where it meets the face, and a more pronounced dark “grin patch” (but beware, Ross’s can show a small grin patch too!). (eBird)
--------------
The snow geese are gathering in the tens of thousands to make their trek up north. However, for some strange reason, this one was all alone on the other side of the city. It seems to swim okay but I am wondering about his ability to fly, as the wingtips seemed mis-aligned when on land. I'll have to check in shortly to see if it is gone.
UPDATE: The goose was gone today (04/23) so has either joined his friends or found a better place on the creek. Perhaps he just wasn't quite ready to go last week.

Shirt: CHUCK'S DOUG SHIRT - CHUCK SIZE
@ MOM Event
that's the day i was born and hence, i had a birthday on april 9th, 2009! AHHHH!
it was a fun day. though it ended with bloatedness after drinking a soy chai at a restaurant. it was the powder mix chai, which, from experience, tends to be laden with dairy... Oh NOES! . . .
in any case, it was still fun. a guy gave me a HUGE purple cellophane wrapped basket of homemade peanut butter cookies he made himself, pretty white roses, funny balloons, and a card about BOOTYBUTTS (the card i received at work was about a toilet and poo... ironic much?)! his mom got me a to-die-for gift card to starbuck's (i whole-heartedly support the local coffee and tea shops, but sometimes, they just aren't around when you need 'em the most!)
then he and i went out to breakfast/lunch/brunch/whatever you wanna call it at T.C. Eggington's. they have great vegetarian choices... "portobellini"... yum! on the way to breakfast, we saw a mother and her tiny baby ducks by the freeway in the puddle-y canal/gutter/whatever you wanna call that. it was cool because it was my birthday and they were cute, yet odd because it was by a freeway and not in a park, or in my school's irrigation or something. them duckies must be suffering economically too, eh?
so after that, i contemplated going back home to work on a commedia dell'arte mask for theatre class, but decided to just veg and hang with this guy at his apartment (i find vegging out, doing nothing a bit difficult to do sometimes).
later on, we met up with my parents to eat dinner at the Euro Cafe in Gilbert, AZ. a great foodsie greeky place. and that's where, you know, *ahem*... the soy-chai-laden-with-dairy-omg-why-did-i-order-this fiasco happened. so after dinner, with all of us feeling like cows (even though i hardly ate anything and they ate like contestants in a hotdog eating contest), we went to Wal-Mart of all places. i'm particularly NOT a Wal-Mart fan, but since i was at Wal-Mart and it might be cheaper than at other places, i bought vanilla soy ice cream because i was magnetized/hankering for some.
we finally headed home around 11pm, after which i quickly shoved this guy out the door and kissed him goodbye, so i could heat up some of those peanut butter cookies and WHAM BAM!... inhale hot cookies n' ice cream. mmmmmmmmmm... no cake this year. and i wanted it that way. no one even sang to me either i noticed, but that's perfectly ok. it's not a crime. wait wait...i take that back: he played the weird al birthday song... so essentially, i was sung to in mp3 format. :)
oh yeah, and at work today for my 'employee birthday'... i made up fruit, granola, & yogurt parfaits for everyone. someone bought all the ingredients (i requested it instead of birthday cake), and i went right to work -- whipping up those babies during my lunch break. i was so amazed some people didn't know what a parfait was or how to make them.
well, now they know :)
suffice to say, i'm on a parfait kick now. i hadn't had one in a year before that day. soy yogurt though. yes, please. :)
p.s. thanks dude for taking these kickity arse photos!

Medium-sized songbird that produces one of eastern Australia’s most familiar rainforest calls. Olive brown above, with white throat patch contrasting strongly with black face, crest, and breast. Juvenile lacks white patch. Feeds on the ground, most commonly in dense vegetation of rainforest and other wet forests. Very vocal. Male sings “oooooo...doo-doo-doo–whipp!” and female responds “pew pew.” (eBird)

Heard frequently in rainforests of eastern Australia, we quickly learned the song. At O'Reilly's, they are very tame and would come to people for food. In fact, a few times they were too close to photograph, even with the 100-400mm lens. The main problem is that they love the deepest, darkest parts of the forest, so very noisy and dark originals. This photo has been significantly edited to bring out the bird from the gloom.

This was taken in White Sands National Park, New Mexico. At 275 square miles it is the largest gypsum sand desert in the world. I was reflecting on the magnitude of the landscape when I looked down and saw the beetle.

About blackbird-sized and striking black-and-white. It has a very distinctive bouncing flight and spends most of its time clinging to tree trunks and branches, often trying to hide on the side away from the observer. Its presence is often announced by its loud call or by its distinctive spring 'drumming' display. The male has a distinctive red patch on the back of the head and young birds have a red crown. What they eat: Insects, seeds and nuts (Courtesy RSPB).
Thanks for viewing my photos and for any favourites and comments, it’s much appreciated 👍
When we see a small fishing boat safe in the harbour, it looks big enough. When we view it from the coast near the huge cliffs of Moher, then view the massive Atlantic ocean, it looks so small and vulnerable. Thank you dear fishermen

I have no idea what they make at this place, but my thought was some up-sized moonshine distillery, or a meth lab. I think this was someplace between Raton and Las Vegas, New Mexico. For sure I-25 and northern New Mexico. I've kept a journal since 2009 with date, odometer, and nearest town. So for a picture like this that was taken in 2012, by the date & time of day it was taken, I can usually figure out roughly where I took the picture.

There are three subfamilies of the Whites and yellows (Pieridae) in Finland. The Mimic sulphurs (Dismorphiinae) contains two species, the better known of which is wood white. The two other Pieridae subfamilies are the Whites (Pierinae) and the Sulphurs (Coliadinae).
The wood white is common in southern and central Finland and can be found here and there in Lapland. It usually rests with its wings against each other, so the upper surface is difficult to study without taking the butterfly in one’s hands. Its long, round-tipped wings and slow, fluttering flying style are characteristic properties of the species. The males fly around looking for females. Females lay their eggs one by one among the leaves that will be the caterpillar’s foodplant. The species is very difficult to differentiate from its close relative, the cryptic wood white. WONDERFUL FACTS - The loudest animal in the world is a mere 2cm long, prawn.
The Pistol Shrimp - is capable of snapping its claw shut so rapidly, that it creates a bubble which collapses to produce a sonic blast, louder than a Concorde’s sonic boom. 🌸
The shock wave can reach 230 decibels, also louder than the sound of a gunshot. The imploding bubble for split seconds also generates temperates of 4,400 Celsius .. Nearly as hot as the sun to killing its prey. 💚
