Medium-sized songbird with long pinkish bill and red eye. Olive-green above, pale below, with dark streaks on chest and belly. Juvenile and immature browner, with grayish bills. Green Oriole is green and yellow below. Female Australasian Figbird is browner, with shorter bill and bare skin around eyes. Inhabits many sorts of woodlands, foraging singly or in pairs, singing frequently, a clear, tuneful “orri-orri-orriole.” (eBird

Even though we had been on the official birding tour for a few days, we had come across a number of these beautiful orioles, along with their close cousins, the Green Oriole. They had proved (and continued) to be difficult to photograph because of the ability to blend right into the leaves. This one granted me two photos before vanishing.

From time to time we need to view an image like this to put us in the overall Nature's context. The minuscule humans facing the Forces of Nature there, are like ants (please enlarge the image to see them on the edge of the cliff). Their presence provides scale to what you are looking at. The sheer size of the scene is tremendous.

Aldeyjarfoss (the waterfall) is certainly a beautiful sight but there are other beautiful views there, as this image shows. I invite you to take a look and see the details of the amazing basalt columns that follow the river after the waterfall. Nature at its best! To think that volcanic action and the passing of time created this marvel is awesome!

Happy Macro Monday everyone!!!

For the Macro Mondays theme: "The First Letter of My Surname"

Black Spider Vs White Spider

WHITE SPIDER WINS !!

How To Do :Reverse Lens Canon EF-S 18-55mm (kit Lens) , Hand Held.

Medium-sized goose with two strikingly different color morphs. White morph generally more common. Adults have black wingtips, pink bill and legs, and often show yellowish staining on the head. Juveniles have dull brownish bill and legs and variable grayish smudging on body and wings. Dark morph adults are dark slaty-gray with a white face; juveniles are entirely dark. Typically found in flocks, sometimes numbering into the thousands, but individuals may be found with other geese species. Occurs in fields, marshes, and lakes during migration and winter; breeds on Arctic tundra. Compare with Ross’s Goose, which is like a cuter miniature version of Snow Goose. Pay attention to the bill: Snow Goose has a longer bill with a more curved border where it meets the face, and a more pronounced dark “grin patch” (but beware, Ross’s can show a small grin patch too!). (eBird)

--------------

The snow geese are gathering in the tens of thousands to make their trek up north. However, for some strange reason, this one was all alone on the other side of the city. It seems to swim okay but I am wondering about his ability to fly, as the wingtips seemed mis-aligned when on land. I'll have to check in shortly to see if it is gone.

UPDATE: The goose was gone today (04/23) so has either joined his friends or found a better place on the creek. Perhaps he just wasn't quite ready to go last week.

About blackbird-sized and striking black-and-white. It has a very distinctive bouncing flight and spends most of its time clinging to tree trunks and branches, often trying to hide on the side away from the observer. Its presence is often announced by its loud call or by its distinctive spring 'drumming' display. The male has a distinctive red patch on the back of the head and young birds have a red crown. What they eat: Insects, seeds and nuts (Courtesy RSPB).

When we see a small fishing boat safe in the harbour, it looks big enough. When we view it from the coast near the huge cliffs of Moher, then view the massive Atlantic ocean, it looks so small and vulnerable. Thank you dear fishermen

Life-sized rusted steel sculptures on a ridge above I-90 and the Columbia River near Vantage, WA. A gift to the state on its centennial anniversary in 1989, the monument honors the Native American Tribes, the State, and the wild horses that once roamed freely. There are a total of 15 horse sculptures up there, atop a steep and hot hike!

The Columbia River is in the mid-ground, the town of Vantage, WA lies on the other side of the river, and the dry Cascade Mountain foothills loom in the distance.

Taking this shot personal safety never crossed my mind

And why should it?

But imagine if mother nature had played her cards differently...

Making this brute of a bird twice it's size and us humans half our size!

It'd make this a truly terrifying sight

You can't have too many wooden spoons. Actually I've noticed that there are several different sizes in this image. The spoon tidy's and the baking packages. Well there you go.

Full size view of The Toll Bridge.

This bridge was built in 1879, it is a wooden toll bridge, it replaced the Ferry crossing. It became Grade 11 listed in 1990.

It links the A493 running along the south bank of the Mawddach to the A496 running along the North.

The Red-winged Blackbirds at Font Hill are quite the aggressive toward the Great Blue Herons. I know the Herons will eat their chicks. It's still amazing to watch them attack such a larger bird.

A winter day near my home.

Actually if you look closely there are 5, counting the 2 lifeboats by the cruise ship. There is a tour excursion boat in the foreground, a tender lifeboat on the right, and the Royal Princess. If you take a good look at the Royal Princess you will see that a movie is being shown on the big screen on the pool deck.

A very small bird in the family of Piciformes - a family of birds that also includes woodpeckers and Wrynecks. This bird around 9-10.5 cms long is sometimes noted as the smallest woodpecker in the world. They behave like woodpeckers pecking on trees and picking out insects, grub, ants and maybe foots off the trees. We can hear them drumming as well many a time much like a woodpecker.

The birds are found in several pockets of Indian forests from South to North and Eastern India. I had seen many times, but getting a decent shot is very hard due to their small size. They climb trees like Nuthatches looking for insects, but then are quite shy and fly off very fast while trying to photograph. The piculets are generally seen in pairs and this year, have seen in all the 3 birding trips I undertook in March / April / May. I was lucky to sight them in a hunting party recently - sight around 8-10 of them in a tree.

This was shot on the roadside slopes in Himachal Pradesh - they are quite common there.

Many thanks in advance for your views, feedback and faves. Much appreciated.

While outside watering plants in the backyard a couple of days ago, I noticed this large Grasshopper that was sprayed with water and jumped on the bricks of our house for safety. I went to get my camera and take some macro images of this Texas sized Grasshopper. I must say the details on this Grasshopper are Awesome and if you look close enough you will see the water drop. Hope Y'all like it.Lol:Gaston (aka Gasssman)

Sometimes, you might wonder if you can achieve your projects, you might think you will never make it, you might think you're not good enough to make it. Trust me, you are stronger than you think. If you really want it, you will make it, don't give up, trust yourself ! Like that little pony showing how strong she can be if a big drafty horse come towards her, she'll fight herself and show she's strong ! Never underestimate yourself.

The outer facades of the Taj Mahls and the tombs inside are decorated with reliefs and, above all, with multi-coloured marble inlays of the greatest fineness and with various semi-precious stones. There are colorful floral motifs, but also inscriptions with passages from the Koran in black marble on a white background

DE:

I took this photo in 1987 with my classic analogue Nikon FE camera, and Nikkor lens 24mm, f2.8 and 35mm Kodachrome slide film. Later I digitalised the til material, using a Nikon Coolscan LS 40ED film scanner the edited in Photoshop Lr
