Had another dinner planned tonight, but Kris had a big luncheon at work and wasn't hungry for dinner... so I decided to wait on cooking a big meal. Guacamole/veggie wrap with the bottle of Jack and my graphic novel. Fun times.

A les viles i ciutats del món sempre hi ha hagut persones singulars, populars, de vegades temudes i esquivades, sovint humiliades per la multitud, en general uns tipus estimats i glossats com una raça extravagant. Entre el pintoresquisme i la humanitat deformada, i per la seva condició d’excèntrics, aquests personatges permeten al grup d’establir col·lectivament on són els topalls del que és normal o acceptable.
D’altra banda, sovint han viscut instal·lats «a la pista», això és la plaça, el carrer, l’escenari humà del deliri i de la infantilització. A ells se’ls han autoritzat tot un seguit de conductes que ningú més no es podia permetre el luxe de tenir si no volia que el prenguessin, precisament, per un llampat. Vista així, la figura del singular s’assembla una mica a la del bufó de la cort, que podia cabriolejar, ser un pocavergonya i dir grans veritats a la cara de l’audiència, però també recorda el prototip del geni incomprès, de l’artista únic que aquesta exposició vol homenatjar.
La singularidad, la unicidad y el acierto de este hotel-museo estriba en que amaneces, convives y te acuestas con el arte; a diferencia de los museos convencionales, donde deambulas como sonámbulo en una borrachera o secuencia de imágenes, difíciles de disociar cuando cruzas el umbral de salida.

Meet three couples in their three kitchens on the Christmas Eves of three successive years.
The “lower class” but very much up and coming Hopcrofts are in their bright new, gadget filled kitchen anxiously giving a little party for their bank manager and his wife and an architect neighbor. Next there are the architect and his wife in their neglected, untidy flat. Then the bank manager and his wife are in their large, slightly modernized, old Victorian style kitchen. Running like a dark thread through the wild comedy of behind the scenes disasters at Christmas parties is the story of the advance of the Hopcrofts to material prosperity and independence and the decline of the others. In the final stages the little man is well and truly on top, with the others, literally and unnervingly, dancing to his tune.

While visiting in Quebec City recently, my longtime artist friend Dan Dustin and I each separately happened upon this unique facade of what used to be a St. Vincent de Paul (church?) building, and we each came to our own conclusion that this was the most interesting of all finds in Quebec City that Labor Day weekend :>))!!
