A recommendation from the Gilded Palace of Sin is enough to bring me out on a cold Monday night to see an unknown to me singer-songwriter from Minnesota. Mr Weaver certainly gave me plenty of practice to test my New Year's resolution to listen more closely to lyrics, which feature highly in his songs.
He also played for a surprisingly long time, leading one woman to collapse at the back during his encore. Whether it was his passionate singing or the increasing heat of the room was unclear.

John Sebastian, the singer of The Lovin' Spoonful, and the songwriter of some of the best songs from the 60's: Summer In The City, Darling Be Home Soon, Daydream, Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind, and so on. He did two great concerts at the Blues In Hell festival outside of Trondheim Sept 4 and 5 2009.
"Rock'n roll is my addiction and literature is my religion", Murphy likes to confess in interviews and articles. In addition to his music and song lyrics Murphy has written for Rolling Stone, Spin, Mucchio Selvaggio and various European magazines and has published Cold & Electric, a semi-autobiographical novel, in French, German and Spanish editions, as well as two short story collections (The Lion Sleeps Tonight and Where the Women Are Naked And The Men Are Rich) and in 2003 Café Notes (Hachette, France). In 2005 his neo-western novel Poetic Justice (Hachette, France) came out in a French translation. English and Italian editions are in preparation. The novel has attracted interest from film producers as well.
