Gianna Nannini: a rock explosion

Founder of Italian rock for women, as well as for years the only local export rockeuse, eclectic musician forged from seven years of study at the Conservatory, Gianna Nannini has gone through forty years of songs conquering more fans than she managed to stay afloat without ever distorting the old style, although evolved over the years from the impetuous rock and the international productions of the beginning towards an equally sanguine songwriting, but much softer and more accessible.

"Triumph of Death" in Pisa on the stage of Piazza Cavalieri - University, Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa

German by birth (Hanover, 14 December 1965), originally from Irpinia (his father, Vito, is from Calitri, his mother, Antonietta, from Andretta) and an Emilian by adoption (between Reggio, Parma and Modena), Vinicio Capossela has known the hard apprenticeship of the emigrant, making stray dogs a life philosophy.

Best Italian singer-songwriter of his generation, Vinicio Capossela is now an omnivorous and global minstrel, who has absorbed sounds and cultures from every corner of the world.

"Ballads for men and beasts" is a work of great expressive power that looks at the plagues of our present overwhelmed by the corruption of language, neoliberalism, violence and the plundering of nature. In an era in which the western world seems to face a new Middle Ages understood as a distrust of culture and knowledge and loss of the sense of the sacred, Capossela chooses to publish a songbook that, evoking a fantastic Middle Ages made of extinct beasts, magical creatures, knights wandering, fairies and saints, it shows the similarities and the sense of actuality that binds him deeply to the chronicles of today.

"The story and the song become an instrument to attempt a rapprochement with the sacred and the beasts, an indispensable access point to the mystery of nature, even human".

27th April 2019 - Newton Faulkner arrived on most peoples radar when he covered Massive Attacks "Teardrops", but there is so much more to this singer and musician. Here he is performing to his adoring fans (and giving me the staredown) at Liverpools O2 Academy..

A black-and-white capture of singer-songwriter Karel Jongejan in full flow during his performance at a Zeeland festival. There's something timeless about watching a young artist channel the spirit of the '60s and '70s while weaving in his own original voice.

beneath the open roof of estadio metropolitano, ed sheeran stood alone in the round — a single voice against the roar of fifty thousand. the air shimmered with light and rhythm, a tidal wave of music rising from the madrid night. bodies moved like breath, arms raised in unison, each soul tethered by melody. this wasn’t just a concert — it was a shared heartbeat, a modern mass sung in verses and echoes.

He's a better singer than I am, but his brother Kodi just farted a pretty tune (two in a row!), so he may have some competition.

Jesus, that stinks.

Another one of my ideas for what life would be like if Joanna Gleason pursued a different life: Singer Songwriter.

3rd August 2019- Amber Lane-McIvor of Manchester based 'Ambiere' brought a chilled ambient vibe to Jimmy's in Liverpool, partly due to the lack of a Drummer at the last minute. Despite an oddly placed position in the band order on the day, these guys manged to captivate an early audience that were mainly here for the Post Punk Indie vibe that was the mainstay of Jimmy's first alldayer in Liverpool..

22nd August 2019 - Starting with the photography conditions... Two diffused Red spots and a smoke machine.. great!! I have a Canon 7D mkII, which is a crop sensor sport camera coupled with a L series 70-200mm F2.8 so every shot is at 6400iso in this light, bring the noise... After much googling i came across a jolt from the past (2012) and Googles free download of the Nik Collection. This PS install is a gift from the Gods themselves for low light photographers that can't afford a full frame camera... Install it and have a play with 'dfine2', wow!!

Peter Broderick.. Looks like Nick Cave, but sings like Neil Young. Plus, he plays multiple instruments to multiple genres. Folk, Disco, Funk, Blues.. Nothing is beyond this young Americans grasp. Tonight it was the eternal spring of the late Arthur Russel's back catalogue of 'Disillusioned Idealism', a vast treasure trove of unfinished goods. Plus Arthur Russel helped create Sleeping Bag Records of the underground classic Kariya 'Baby Let Me Love You For Tonight' fame.

A treasure chest I for one cvan't wait to hear more from

9th August 2019 - Stockport raised 'Rory Wynne' performing at another quality event at Jimmy's on Bold Street in Liverpool. This lad has had some scathing reviews, but he pulled it all together on the night and played an exceptional gig. The name may not be familiar to most, but he's producers recently have included members of The Coral and Blossoms, He also appeared in the last series of 'Cold Feet'.

The purpose of this Berlin trip was mainly to see Courtney Marie Andrews at the Privatclub in Kreuzberg - I attended a gig at the venue last summer and on both occasions the lighting has been dreadful, but some interesting opportunities presented themselves.
