This house was originally built in 1905, and was split into an upper and lower apartment.

Dave Packard and his wife lived on the first floor, the landlord lived on the second, and Bill Hewlett lived in at little shed for the first nine months they were there, until he got married.

The HP Garage is a private museum where the company Hewlett-Packard (HP) was founded. It is located at 367 Addison Avenue in Palo Alto, California. It is considered to be the "Birthplace of Silicon Valley." In the 1930s, Stanford University and its Dean of Engineering Frederick Terman began encouraging faculty and graduates to stay in the area instead of leaving California, and develop a high-tech region. HP founders William Hewlett and David Packard are considered the first Stanford students who took Terman's advice.

The garage has since been designated California Historical Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Though not open for public tours, the property can be viewed from the sidewalk and driveway.

A sign posted right off 101 near Oracle. It says "first class software engineers wanted!" and is by a company called Cataphora in the e-discovery space. "War for engineering talent" is heating up in the valley.

Trying to find some interesting stuff in the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California. And ended up doing a bunch of diptych, some intentional while others accidental This time I remembered to use auto night mode on the Pentax 17, so the exposure were all pretty decent.

In Berlin finde man dieselbe Energie, dieselbe Leidenschaft und dieselbe kreative Atmosphäre, wie man sie in den 90er-Jahren in San Francisco antraf, dem Mekka der Internet-Pioniere. Und tatsächlich deutet vieles darauf hin, dass in der Hauptstadt eine neue Gründerzeit angebrochen ist. Fast täglich entstehen hier neue Konzepte, die dazu beitragen können, dass Menschen sich stärker vernetzen und ihren Alltag besser organisieren. tip-Autorin Anne Lena Mösken hat sich für unsere aktuelle Titelgeschichte in der Start-up-Szene umgesehen und ist dabei auf einen neuen Unternehmertypus gestoßen. "Vor zehn Jahren wurden Start-ups in Deutschland von BWLern gegründet, die Lust darauf hatten, mal Firma zu spielen“, erklärt Felix Petersen, Mitbegründer des Meinungs­portals Amen. Die Programmierer und Designer seien damals die Ärsche gewesen, doch das habe sich nun geändert: "Die Revolution, die gerade stattfindet, ist eine Revolution der Nerds.“

Im Interview mit tip-Redakteur Peter Laudenbach steuert der Internet-Pionier Karsten Schneider eine nüchterne Einschätzung der Rolle bei, die die lokale Politik beim Entstehen einer digitalen Metropole gespielt hat: "Zumindest hat sie nicht groß geschadet.“
