As Florian Hardwig pointed out, the sign may be based on Kurier, a script typeface designed by Herbert Thannhaeuser in the 1930s. The signmaker changed – and, in fact, improved – many details that would have looked less fortunate if set straight from the font.

long ago

but not so very long ago

the world was different, oh yes it was

you built a town and you made it live

it was your town

time goes by and time brings change

and you change too

Nothing comes that you can't handle

so on you go

you never see it coming

when the world caves in on you

On your town

Nothing you can do

main street isn't main street anymore

the lights don't seem to shine

as brightly as they shone before

to tell the truth

the lights don't shine at all...

in our town. .

' but now something has changed

cuz she ain't the same

she just acts like we never have met.

if i didn't have to guess

i'd gladly confess

to anything I might've tried

if i was with her too long

or i've done something wrong

i wish she'd tell me what it is

i'd run and hide

tho the night ran swirling and whirling

i remember her whispering yet

but evidently she don't

evidently she won't

she just acts like we never have met

i' m leavin today, i'll be on my way

of this i can't say very much

but if you want me to, i can be just like you

and pretend that we never have touched

and if anyone asks me

is it easy to forget?

i'll say it's easily done, you just pick anyone

and pretend that you

never have met...

i dont believe you/dylan

This is that stump by the road on Highway 141 that has ever changing signs thanks to a mysterious signmaker.

Occupied Seattle sign by Seattle signmaker "Parris". The sign was on display as part of a "Vanishing Seattle" exhibit at RailSpur in Pioneer Square, Seattle. Contrary to what I would have thought, the sign (as a commenter explains below) has nothing to do with the 2011 Occupy Seattle action nor the 2020 CHOP on Seattle's Capitol Hill. As is explained below, Occupied Seattle (1985-1999) was a small vintage shop in Belltown, Seattle owned by Geof Spencer at 2323 2nd Ave (current home of the restaurant Tavolata), but more than a shop it was an unofficial performance venue. See comment for details.

Swedish Signmaker: "A sign?"

Hotel: "Yes, for the Clarion Hotel."

Swedish Signmaker: "Clarion Hotel Sign?"

Hotel: "Yes, a Clarion Hotel sign."

Swedish Signmaker: "Okay, no problem. I make Clarion Hotel Sign."

Hotel: "Perfect. Do you do installation?"

Swedish Signmaker: "Yes, no problem. We install Clarion Hotel Sign."
