Typical, I think, of areas of such diversity and enormous energy, signs for all manner of things and services abound all round Whitchapel Road. The only shop or service I could not see? A signmaker's.
This is one of a number of murals on Church Road , Garston , Liverpool , celebrating local heroes . This is Jack Jones .
He left school at 14 and worked as an engineering apprentice. After the Wall Street Crash, Jones lost his job, eventually finding employment with a firm of signmakers and painters. He then joined his father as a Liverpool docker.
Jack Jones was converted to socialism by reading The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists by Robert Tressell, and he later explained how the book "was passed from hand to hand among people in the Labour movement and had a remarkable effect on our thinking". He became a member of the Transport and General Workers Union, and was elected shop steward, then a delegate on the National Docks Group Committee.
He was elected General Secretary of the TGWU in 1968. In January 1977 a Gallup opinion poll found that 54% of people believed that Jones was the most powerful person in Britain, ahead of the Prime Minister .
In later years Jones served as the President of the National Pensioners Convention, an umbrella organisation representing over 1,000 local, regional and national pensioners' groups, of which he was Honorary Life President.
This mural is by Liverpool artist Nicola Taggart . The various murals feature significant buildings , people and places relevant to the local community .

This wasn't the only 'Bṙitannia Road' sign, either; I photographed another, at a different intersection.
And on Google StreetView, one can see there are a total of three different intersections with the same sign error - Bṙitannia and Howe (i.e. this one), Bṙitannia and Violet, and Bṙitannia and Regina.

In Saskatoon, November 16, 2013 proved to be a cold day for a March. While -8C was not barrier to outside activity in itself, it was the 30+kph wind from the E/NE that chilled as we walked, bused, biked to Midtown Plaza to gather for the march. We were relieved that the gathering place was on the West side of the all, and out of the wind. Petitions were signed! A signing table had a couple of clipboards with petition copies and “Chick” wheeled her wheelchair around cheerfully collecting signatures. The signmakers were busy, there were many signs either brought to the march or handed out for those that did not have signs. We were all pleased when the “Idle No More” banner was unfurled.

Between are two square tubular steel verticals and three horizontal pieces welded together to form the support system. Protruding ends were then bolted to the inside corner of the building.

The first political yardsign you encounter driving south into California on I-5 just past the Henley/Hornbook exit. This sign was last updated in the run-up to the 2020 presidential election.

Steel Elephant
The concept of this elephant links back to Sheffield’s heritage as a city internationally known for its steel production. Not content with simply painting the exterior of their elephant, artist Tom Clayton has gone one step further, creating an elaborate steel wire frame made up of wires, cogs and lights. After inserting the wire frame into the sculpture, he cut away sections of the fiberglass casing, allowing the organs of the cyborg elephant to be displayed for all to see. Each cut out section was then covered in acrylic to protect the delicate structure. The rest of the elephant was painted with a chrome finish to give it a metallic looking outer shell. All of the materials for this elephant were sourced locally in Sheffield. The chrome finish along with the rivets is a vinyl wrap which was done at a signmaker called RJ Signs based in Northwich.

Well in this case six on the lightweight platform and four supervising, there were so many on the platform they were jostling for position!

Truly dangerous stuff, clearly in no way obvious and definitely warranting several large signs placed around a field. It's just not cricket!
Found on the Isle of Wight in 2006 (despite the Flickr date), this is probably the most ridiculous nanny state sign I've yet come across. It'd be nice to think councils have stopped wasting money on this kind of thing given the number of public sector workers laid off in recent years, but I'm afraid I'm inclined to doubt it. Still, the signmakers probably got a laugh out of it!

Esther stands guard over the newly installed Los Gatos Whole Foods Market Specialties chalkbanner. 100" long and mostly black & white, this styrene chalk design grabs attention of anyone around the notorious 'cheese pod'.

This free-standing unit is installed at the entry door in a patch of lawn area directly in front of this smaller office building. The larger text in this sign demonstrates that a small sign can have a large impact and high visibility.
I love beverages. It's always easier to conceptualize art when you're already really tuned into the subject matter. This chalkboard (11x19") needed something after the first finishing touches. The retro 1950's blue background not only looked very cool, but cool temperature-wise as well. A good idea for COLD brew coffee.

Although Strata recommends HDU for signs destined for the lower U.S., the customer wanted a rustic, natural wood sign for his Donkey Farm. With the use of tinted, deep penetrating stains and heavy cedar backing, 12 or more years of life for this sign can be expected.

A clear case of Murphy’s Law for Lettering. Or: When Rotis roams the street, keep your capital(s) in inside!
For those who are not familiar with ‘Rotis’: It is the name of the typeface used in ‘Replicata’. Langenbeck and Historische Türen are in Times Bold. Obviously, the signmaker was aware that he was doing something entirely wrong, at least that’s why I think he striked through Langenbeck with a long thick stroke. The only thing I really wonder about: Why wasn’t K flipped vertically?

This building, wall mounted direction sign guided patients to the parking area at the rear of the institution. The raised customer logo was faithfully reproduced at the top of sign.
