SOO kicked off it's third cycle of ASCEND - Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority's signature youth enrichment program. Some of the topics presented were 'Finding Your Destiny', 'Understanding your GPA', 'Why are Scholarships needed', and a lesson on Etiquette.

As sometimes happens, I forgot to take a picture of the dishes I made for myself and Andy, and since there were no leftovers, I couldn't cheat and do them later. The eggs were fine; nothing beats eggs and cheese. I liked the beets, which I finished with plenty of butter, salt, and pepper once they were steamed. I paired both with Madison's tried-and-true recipe for buttermilk biscuits.
Since I couldn't get a good picture of dinner, I'll instead describe meeting Madison herself earlier last summer. My friend Shellie and I met at the Austin Book Festival in front of the Capitol to hear her speak on a panel of local farmers and food writers. Later, Shellie and I met her in the signing tent, where I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Madison and having her sign my well-worn book. She was a lovely, intelligent, sincere lady, and I'm so thankful to have met the woman who's been writing the recipes that have fed me for the past year and change. I hope to show her all the pictures I've taken once this project is over.
A tricky Par 3, the 7th is the Worsley Park Signature hole. If playing from the rightside tees, a shot over a large lake and a brook at the front of the green is required. The left-side tees require only a shot over the brook as the pond is moved away from the direct firing line (unless you are unfortunate enough to slice or mis-hit the ball). The brook is about 3-4 feet wide so lucky bounces on the near-side to the front bank of the green are at a premium. The green has a hump running from the front middle of the green to the center which can make long puts from either side, difficult to line up.
H O L E H I N T S :
Drive - A shot to the middle is the best percentage shot. Hitting slightly long into the grass bunker at the back of the green is a better price to pay than falling short.
Green - Perhaps slower than most as this side of the course is more in shadow and moist than the rest as a result of the large surrounding trees.
