Emily Floyd
Painted aluminium sculpture, 2004
Waterview Walk, Docklands (Melway ref. 2E, H6)
Melbourne artist Emily Floyd’s Signature Work is a playful addition to the public art collection at Docklands. Resembling an abstracted toy rabbit, it is intended to amuse and confound passers-by. Standing nearly four metres high and coated in black Polyurethane paint, the aluminium-plate sculpture is also reminiscent of futuristic creations such as Darth Vader, or the menacing rabbit figure in the film Donny Darko. Planted in the urban landscape of Docklands, the presence of this giant rabbit is both cute and unsettling as it looms over the viewer.

I had started a larger embroidered piece to applique, but time. Not enough of it. So a simple signature in one corner
The hand-stitched (with a sewing machine) diamond-quilt pattern adds a classy look to the two-tone upholstery with premium vinyl.

I knew I wanted to add a little something repurposed into my signature look cause I feel that that is pretty much my signature!! I love repurposing things. The Dress itself is made from scratch using my own patterns and then the repurposed part is the white shoulder piece.. It's a piece from my wedding dress! It was the decorative gathered waist band on my original wedding dress and I took it off and I've been dying to use it in a dress!! So Here it is!!

... on beautiful paper. Invited by the Taiwanese representation in Brussels to the vernissage of the calligraphy exhibition by Tong Yang-Tse. Going together with Harumi Nakano sensei gave me a lot more insight into the artwork of this huge-scale calligrapher.

People with an affinity for strong mixed drinks in London are probably a little familiar with The London Cocktail Club. Happy news then - to see that they’re expanding... yet again, opening their newest site in the railway arches on Paradise Row, not too far away from Sager and Wilde, Bethnal Green tube station and the Japanese Canteen.
Asides from a lot of very delicious and very strong drink, the folks at the LCC may be best known for their swinging light fixtures - the bartenders have a thing about knocking the lights around, half way through the rapid assembly of your drink. Anyway, as you can see, there was a launch party and they were good enough to invite us along to it. Yes, I left before things started really getting out of hand, but I did, amongst other things, get to finally meet LCC's larger than life cofounder JJ Goodman (in his signature white cap) - and who appeared to be having the absolute time of his life! ^_^
