We stopped at Tarana Railways Station, again on the way home. You can hear me breathing in the video, Sorry.
Built in 1905 as the Southern Pacific passenger station, it's 110 years old this year. Just prior to its 100th anniversary, Amtrak renovated the station, including changing the paint color to a golden brown. I photographed this in 1979 when it wore an off-white color with chocolate beige trim at the base of each of the columns. Something else is different in this photo that is not seen today: a train orders stand along with accompanying train orders signal lights. The bottom light would be lit in white with the letters "TO" to signify that the crew had to pick up train orders from the stand. [35mm film: Mamiya MSX-1000]

We have passed this place a hundred times in almost two years. Haven't stopped. Need to.

Homer Hicklebaugh had a 1970's mindset which wasn't all that strange since it was the 1970s. Back then, when you remodeled a building, you just covered up the whole exterior. It didn't matter that the building was a historical bank, just cover it up. Fast forward to the 2010's. Homer Hicklebaugh, Jr. decided to remodel this same building and to his surprise, he realized Daddy had covered up a historical building. It won't be long and this old bank will be fully restored making photographers extremely happy!
The above story is hogwash. Everything is true except the names. The Securities Trust Bank was built in 1910. The building was to be demolished by current owner, Sam Abed, when the old bank was discovered. At that point, Sam received permission from the City of Bakersfield to restore the building.
