El 5 de agosto de 1924, la compañía Siemens revolucionó la gestión del tráfico urbano con la creación de su primer semáforo eléctrico. Con el objetivo de mejorar los modelos existentes y aportar un plus a las ciudades, Siemens creó un avanzado dispositivo situado en la Postdamer Platz de Berlín, el cruce europeo más activo de la época. De 3 metros de altura, el semáforos cuadrados del arquitecto alemán Jean Krämer, cuyo diseño fue inspirado en las torres de iluminación tráfico, entonces habituales en Estados Unidos
Potsdamer Platz fue una de las plazas más concurridas de Europa durante las décadas del 20 y 30 y se encontraba en un área llena de comercios y cafés, además, fue el sitio en el cual se instaló el primer semáforo de Europa. Con la Segunda Guerra Mundial y sometida al bombardeo de los aliados y eso culminó con su total destrucción.
Cuando fue construido el Muro de Berlín, se convirtió en tierra de nadie y actualmente es uno de los sitios más famosos a nivel mundial, ya que allí se lleva a cabo cada año, el Festival de Cine de Berlín, conocido como la Berlinale y en el cual se entregan los osos de oro a los mejores filmes del festival.
Todo lo que existe en la zona es nuevo y nada queda de la original plaza y se destacan las Torres que albergan las oficinas de Sony y la Debis, además de una increíble plaza cubierta que alberga el cine panorámico Imax, conocido como el Centro Sony.

My favorite thing to do in Saigon is to ride the city bus. For about 4000đ a trip to most places in the city, I have countless opportunities to people watch. In this photo, please note the tiny arm sticking out the bus window. It belongs to the bus driver's assistant. Currently, the arm is in resting position but poised to signal right as you will observe in the next photo. Does the bus not have signal lights? Who knows and who cares. Certainly no self-respecting Saigon driver would pay signal lights any mind. Stay tuned.
