Photographed out my window (the passenger side, I don't shoot and drive!) from inside the van while driving around the neighbourhood known as "the strip", after staring at the photo for a bit I think this has A.J. LOGAN CO. painted over GATEWAY INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITS; Pittsburgh, PA

This old sign was recently revealed during renovations; near Kingston Road and McCowan; Toronto ON

The Cozy Corner has seen better days -- especially its great old Schlitz sign. The other side of the sign has less damage; have a look here.

(The Cozy Corner is also across the street from Jack'$.)

Another "not on the tour" Savannah image.

Spotted on a wall on Main Street; Tucker, GA

I've posted a lot of photos from Gaffney, SC, lately, with still more to come. We were in Gaffney for one reason: Harold's Restaurant. And, as it turned out, we went there mistakenly. I had this restaurant mixed up with another restaurant I had seen on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and my husband and I specifically drove into Gaffney for a big southern-style breakfast, which we thought we would get at Harold's. So imagine our surprise when we discovered that Harold's doesn't serve breakfast at all. It was another southern restaurant I had seen on the show that served the amazing-looking breakfast. Oh well.

We each had a sandwich (grilled cheese for my hubby, pimiento cheese for me) and a cup of horrible coffee, then I set out to do a quick walkabout of a very deserted downtown area (it was a Friday morning, just after 10 a.m. when we left Harold's). The man you see above, in the left quarter of the photo, was the only one on the street and apparently followed my every move. I did not notice this, but my bodyguard .... er, husband ... did. It seems my camera was the object of his attention. Shortly after I took this photograph a Gaffney police car drove by and my hubby gave the driver a brotherly nod. The man disappeared almost immediately.

Gaffney had a suburban area that had the typical strip malls etc, but the older downtown area of Gaffney was very photogenic.

There is a ghost sign on the building, but I don't quite know what it says. Stag Shop??

(You can see a shot of the restaurant's inside HERE.)

The exterior shot (seen in my Pennsylvania set) is an evening shot, but this was photographed the following morning inside the vintage 1949 restored diner, now known as the Gatto Cycle Diner; in the boro of Tarentum; Pittsburgh, PA

In "the strip" neighbourhood; Pittsburgh, PA

Gotta love those letters. Lawrence, KS.

Spotted on Queen Street West near Ossington; Toronto, ON

I was really surprised to see this storefront in Orillia, obviously an old Bi-Way store (with the sign roughly painted over). I haven't seen anything like this in years. Maybe this was one of the last Bi-Way stores to operate here in Ontario?

'specializing in repairs of sports & foreign cars"; Toronto ON

Guerneville, CA - September 2021

January 2009; I was very disappointed to see this bldg virtually abandoned and the "sorry charlie's" sign -- one of my favourite signs in Savannah, GA -- destroyed. Sigh. If you want to see what the sign looked like in February 2007 (and last January too) have a look here: www.flickr.com/photos/alphabetsoupstudio/2460684784/

Abandoned gas station (photo 1 of 3), somewhere on northbound Hwy 11, north of Sweetwater TN but south of Lenoir City, TN

The Morrison Hotel window was recreated for The Doors Day on Jan 4, 2020 at the original Morrison Hotel, where the iconic album photo of the group was taken.

This old car wash with the cool old Fina sign is just down the street from Randy's Bar-B-Q. I'm SURE there used to be a big Fina sign but, alas, I never got a photo of it (we drove by this area once last year and my camera battery was dead) and now it's gone. Sigh.

Savannah, GA

In 2015, when Converse relocated its headquarters from the suburbs to a century-old restored property in Boston’s Lovejoy Wharf, they wanted to make a statement with their signage. Installed on the roof of the 9-story building is one of the most impressive signs in the city. Extending 10-feet tall and spanning 80-feet wide, the letters were designed to match the building’s rust brick facade and copper patina trimmings.
