Guess where I went on vacation last week?

I have hundreds of pictures, that I'll be weeding through and editing and posting gradually - gonna go for about one or two a day so I don't inundate my stream with a million photos.

That's why I like my job so much! :-D

My handmade chalkboard sign for craft shows. I found an old piece of wood at a thrift store for 2 bucks, then I taped off the edges and used chalkboard spray paint on it. Then I just chalked away! A warm welcome to my booth!

A couple of years ago while traveling on Route 1 outside of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware I saw this sign. There was a uproar over his signs. I think they are now toned down more.

Seeing the clouds hang over the hills here and the sign...well, it's been many a year since I watched Twin Peaks. It was definitely good to finally visit the "Double R Diner" and savor that damn fine cup of coffee!

We're taking a road trip to the city that never sleeps. What plans do you have for the weekend?

Aggressive signage warning of wildlife on the highways was encountered a number of times on our roadtrip thru Montana and Wyoming.

Welcome to my Flickr space & thank you for visiting,

hope you enjoy my images.

Something that you don't see too often in the United States anymore, except in the rural towns that are off the beaten path.

This sign is on a side street in the town of Santa Margarita California, located in San Luis Obispo County in California's Central Coast area. The town is located inland, just off the busy Highway 101.

Seen on an Aylesbury Vale U3A London walk. Naturally, we ignored it!

Part of the abandon newspaper building in Niagara Falls. The newspaper name still exists, but it's just another copy of the 4-5 generic "niagara" news papers that run under diferent mastheads. They have diferent names, but the same content & all come out of the same building.

Historic Route 66 (Seligman, Az)

We had breakfast this morning at the world famous Loveless Cafe a few miles south of Nashville, TN. This cafe is famous for their biscuits and "The Biscuit Lady" who had appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and the Martha Stewart Show, after she had made over 2 million biscuits in 26 years working at the cafe. Sadly, she died about three years ago, and from our experience with breakfast this morning, it would appear that she did NOT leave her famous recipe with them before she died. At least the awesome neon sign out front still looks as good as ever!

Just got back from vacationing at Doe Lake. That's why I've not been up on flickr. I'll be around to see you over the next few days. I'm also wrestling with a bit of sciatica, so I can only sit for a bit at a time.

While visiting the town of Burk 's Falls, which is a few miles north of the cottage, I was struck by the lamppost banners.

When Canadian soldiers are killed in action, as they have been in Afghanistan and other hot spots, the remains are flown back to Canadian Air Force Base Trenton, Ontario. From there, they travel almost 100 miles to Toronto for post mortem. The stretch of Highway 401 along which they travel is known as the Highway of Heroes.

There are at least fifty bridges along the route, and each is packed with Canadians of all stripes. Local policemen, firemen, paramedics, legionnaires, scouts, guides, etc. salute as the hearses pass beneath. It is an overpowering experience. Flags everwhere.

Been through Needles a few times. I've never seen a cloud here.

Yeah, the Dyersburg Mall sign is pretty plain Jane. But this could likely change if a remodel is underway, or planned for the very near future. Here's a photo of this same sign dated mid-October 2007, back when Peebles had a different logo, and Burkes Outlet was a Goody's: img.groundspeak.com/waymarking/large/a29f1528-312b-485e-b...

Other national-regional tenants (not listed on that sign) include: Bath and Body Works, Rue 21 etc., GNC (of course!), maurices, Verizon Wireless, Payless Shoe Source, and Rogers Jewelers, which is a small chain with only two Tennessee locations. That's pretty much it as far as nationally-known outfits are concerned! In addition there's an arcade, armed forces recruitment center, the popcorn/coffee/cookie place which looks to be of local origin, and a good healthy handful of other local-looking places inside including another cool-looking jewelery store. None of those seem to be the trashy ghetto type establishments one might find in Memphis either! And yes, you can see the Kroger greenhouse store to the right of the sign in the background.

Star Wars: Episode 6 – The Return of the Jedi saw Darth Vader die. Or did it? In fact, he lived on as a cloned version of himself and after retreating to wherever it is Dark Lords of the Sith go to make their nefarious plans he’s back with a new approach to taking over the galaxy.

In Episode 7 Vader’s back with a new shiny pimping costume and a decidedly different approach to galactic domination. Rather than an army of tough-guy clone troopers he’s decided to get himself an army made up of sexy stormtroopers (cloned from his own dead mother!) that he’s willing to hire out to whoever has the most intergalactic credits to pay. Expect to see cards similar to these in a phone box near you some time soon…

Cheers
