Philippe's was established in 1908 by Philippe Matthieu, who has claimed to have created the "french dip" sandwich. This has been refuted by others, including another local L.A. eatery, Cole's, which has also claimed to have served the first french dip.
Regardless, Matthieu sold his restaurant in 1927, and the Martin brothers (Harry, Dave and Frank) kept the place open 24/7 until WWII.
A relocation was necessary when the 101 (Hollywood Freeway) was built. They moved to a new location in 1951, and have been there ever since.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 ...'For the Lord himself shall
descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in
Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain
shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to
meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.'

Grunge textured warning sign on vintage paper, with the words DO NOT READ THIS SIGN. A conceptual design with a comically self-defeating twist. Special thanks to vectorportal for providing this base vector file to work with.

This historic bar and live music venue has quite a storied history,
Originally built in the early 1920's as a private residence the place became a truck stop cafe in 1936
and the doorman I spoke to also said the back of the joint doubled up as a brothel for a time
In the 1950's the place became the Doll Hut bar and ultimately a live music venue when it was bought by promoter Linda Jemison in the 1990's.
Many famous punk rock bands have played here like Social Distortion and the Offspring.
The hut finally closed it's doors in the summer of 2001 for a short time but was soon bought and re-opened back up a few months later and that is how this live music venue and bar continues
today................. Update: The Doll Hut has closed it's doors Jan 1 2013 for good and is now sold to some new owners who will not keep the historic bar and venue the way it's been.......... Another one bites the dust !!

Huge biilboard next to the R59 in Meyerton vicinity, South Africa.
(The brewery itself is just to the left of the billboard, fairly close to the road.)
The day before the Grand Depart I decided to look for Yellow in the streets of Leeds City Centre. I knew I couldnt make it on the actual day so made the most of what was available.

I think the sign says it all but in case there is any doubt, this was created for Sliders Sunday. :-)
Have a wonderful week my friends!!!
It's probably only when you see the sign in real life that you also get to check out the myriad power lines, billboards and other intrusive stuff cluttering up the skyline around it. You would think someone might've tried a bit harder to site that electricity pylon and all those overhead cables somewhere further away but no, they cross the boulevard almost directly overhead.
Shame really that such an iconic sign is a bit hemmed in by so much modern interference.
