This has to be one of the most impressive marquees in small town Oklahoma that I've seen. The theater is a live-event venue now.
Here's more from Cinema Treasures:
CANTON, MICH (2008) - I dropped a lot of money here at the first Ikea store in Michigan. When I was a kid I hit the one in Toronto, Ontario. But not as hard as I did this time. I would love a whole "Ikea house"
The flat Co. Limerick countryside stretches out beyond the entrance to Mass Rock at Ashford. I'm an Atheist but the more I learn about Irish history (we were taught nothing of it in school) the more ashamed I am of my English ancestry. This extract from Wikipedia explains about Mass Rocks. There were also "Hedge schools" where children were taught in secret :-
"Penal Laws were imposed by the ruling British on Irish Roman Catholics during the 1600’s and 1700’s, in a bid to force people to accept the reformed Christian faith. The laws were very restrictive and have had a long and lasting effect on the daily life of Irish Catholics. The laws included:-
-Restrictions on how children of Catholics were educated
-Banning Catholics from holding public office or serving in the army
-Expelling Catholic clergy from the country, or executing them
-Taking land and distributing it among British Lords
-Dividing inherited land equally between children, to reduce land size held by individual Catholics
-Excluding Catholics from voting
-Ban on Catholics inheriting Protestant land
Another restriction during Penal Times was a ban on the celebration of Catholic Mass. Catholic priests and worshipers had to find hidden areas in the Irish countryside to celebrate Mass. Many of these places were marked with “Mass Rocks”. The Mass Rock (Carraig an Aifrinn in Irish) was oftentimes a rock taken from a church ruin, and used as a place of worship for Roman Catholics."
Former GEM Discount Store located at 555 Floresta Blvd. in San Leandro,CA. This store was open only to people who were employed by the government... city leaders, police, fire, military personel and their families. The name was an acronym for Governemnt Employees Mart. In 1970 the descion was made to open these store to the general public. The change was somewhat unclear as the GEM name still remained in place and their were strict guidelines for joining prior to becoming public. This store closed in 1972 and the building would sit vacant until 1975 when The Treasury opened one of their stores in the newly renovated site. The Treasury closed in the mid 1980's and the building was heavily remodled for a PaknSave Foods and a Service Merchandise store which opened in the late 1980's. The Service Merchandise closed in the mid 1990's and the building is now occupied by a Dd's Discouts. PaknSave however is still open.
Here is the building itself when it was occupied by GEM...
These were all over the ship, helping passengers in case of emergency to find the closest muster station -- with or without their life jackets!

This is my everyday project for 2010. Taking one lyric from a song every day and creating art or taking a photo inspired from that lyric.

The Stars Motel neon on Lincoln Avenue was torn down a couple weeks ago. Another piece of history discarded for a strip mall (most likely).

Always on the lookout for things for the Pabst group.
This signs located @ The Blvd. in Spokane, Washington.
The Hillcrest was a pretty big old place, up on a hill (obviously), and once featured a restaurant too.
Just in case you're not sure it's a motel, they put up a second sign for you too. This place gets pretty low reviews online, unless you read the ones that sound like they're from the managers. It's apparently a "Scottish Inn", which is part of Hospitality International, who also offer up "Red Carpet Inn", "Passport Inn", "Master Hosts" and "Downtowner Inns"... all of which are usually names I totally avoid when I'm looking for lodging.
Former Lucky Supermarket, converted to Albertsons, now closed on Norwalk Blvd at Artesia. April 2007. 1of 2 for this store.
