El picogordo común es una especie de ave paseriforme de la familia Fringillidae propia del paleártico. En la actualidad es la única especie del género Coccothraustes. Sigiloso y difícil de observar, es uno de los fringílidos más robustos y compactos.

In the dim light of a forgotten grove, three spiders hang motionless in a web stretched like a veil across shadow and silence. The largest crouches low, its limbs splayed like a sigil of warning. Above it, two smaller figures linger, sentinels or spawn, no one’s sure. A jagged branch casts a claw-like shadow across the scene, as if reaching for something it can’t quite touch. The web itself seems alive, pulsing with tension, spun not just from silk but from something older. This is no ordinary nest—it’s a shrine.

Tabitha Kinkade pulled the great sword from its sheath slowly. In the moonlight, the gold leaf that adorned its ornate guard gleamed as she curled her fingers around the grip. She squinted, holding it out straight, and gazed at the glowing sigils that adorned the glistening white metal of the angelic blade.
It had been passed down to her from her ancestors, and to them from the angels who fashioned it in the Celestial Realm. On the day of it's forging it was called Omipotens Iram, but most only knew it as The Wrath Blade, and once again it had been called on to serve its wielder.
From a distance, Tabitha could hear her target's manacle screeching as it approached. The hooves of the destrier it rode pounded into the ground with such power that the very earth trembled.
As Tabitha took her position, she thought it would have been better to take higher ground, but there wasn't time, and so she poised herself directly in the creature's path.
Just as quickly as the red glow appeared at the crest of the dirt road above her, the Revenant burst through the fog with the power of a juggernaut.
With its sword held to it's side, the ghastly figure's eyes shown bright in the darkness. Its face was like stone, except for the lower jaw that moved mechanically as it screamed. The armor that adorned the skeletal corpse appeared to be heavy and confining, as its ornate engravings glistened with the crimson glow of the Revenant's eyes.
The powerful steed the monster rode, fixed its diabolical eyes on Tabitha. In the moment she could see globs of drool, slipping through the horse's gnashing fangs, dangling from its mouth. The beast, which had been raised on the bloody plains of the underworld and the rider that straddled it's back, smelled of brimstone and the rotting flesh of men. And the stench of it filled her nostrils as she squinted and held her ground.
Grinding the toe of her boot into the dirt, she quickly brought Omipotens Iram up, taking a high stance. Her deep blue eyes were dark and motionless as she watched the Revenant and the demon mount gallop towards her. The great blade she held burned bright, glowing with a holy light and from the dark skies above one could faintly hear the angels themselves raising the barritus, striking sword to shield as the Shadowhunter whispered a single word..."Come"
This is a little short based on my character Tabitha Kinkade, the Werewolf Hunter.
I'm hoping to get back into this one and continue this little story, if not for any other reason, so that my kids will have something to remember me by someday. To the actors and artist that have already been cast, I'll be in touch.

Es una especie con alto poder dispersivo. Comportamiento
Aunque es una especie sigilosa y difícil de avistar porque suele estar escondida entre los carrizales, en época de cría son ruidosos y es fácil oír sus llamadas, y donde no son perseguidos pueden verse alrededor de las zonas urbanas. Suele desplazarse caminando y gracias a sus grandes dedos puede sostenerse sobre la vegetación acuática sin hundirse. A pesas de tener un vuelo pesado puede volar largas distancias, y es un buen nadador para ser un ave sin membranas interdigitales.
Alimentación
Generalmente viven en parejas y grupos más grandes. Se desplaza sobre los juncos y se alimenta principalmente de brotes tiernos y otras materias vegetales. También come invertebrados, como los caracoles, huevos, polluelos y pequeños peces. A menudo usa una de sus patas para llevarse alimento al pico
