Heading out of Bury with the 13.10 shuttle service to Ramsbottom - and generating a huge amount of smoke into the process - is ex-Austerity tank rebuild 2890. Originally built by Hunslet in Leeds in 1943 as an 0-6-0ST, and purchased for preservation in 1976 from the National Coal Board (Maesteg colliery), this locomotive was initially based at the Mid Hants Railway. A change in ownership led to a rebuild in 2000 as an 0-6-0 tender engine to resemble 'Douglas' from the Rev Awdry's 'Railway Stories' books, making 2890 something of a unique oddity on the UK steam preservation scene.
Seen here in Carlisle working the free shuttle service from Stagecoach Carlisle Willowholme depot open day, 27th May 2017.

Oddly I was more interested in National Express Coventry single deckers, especially ones carrying the revised two-tone blue livery! - but this ex-Greater Manchester Transport bus was providing rides from the Electric Railway Museum (which is due to close sadly) near Coventry Airport to the city centre. Seen entering Hales Street from Corporation Street on 8/10/17.
I assume this is a preserved 'Mancunian' - probably a Daimler Fleetline CRG6LXB-33 with Park Royal bodywork (although MCW and Roe also bodied to a similar design - East Lancs were involved too but only on the Leyland Atlantean PDR2/1 chassis).
... and a far cry from the more urban scenery which a Routemaster would have encountered in it's work-a-day life in the British capital, London. LDS 201A, a Scottish re-registered RM from the Stagecoach heritage fleet is seen climbing towards the SVBM premises with a shuttle service from Dunfermline earlier this morning. Apparently the bus still sees occasional use in the Stagecoach HQ town of Perth.

Possibly taken on the same occasion as my recent posting of the Routemaster in Llangollen, was this shot of another ex London bus working a shuttle service at the opposite end of the Llangollen Railway. The picture was taken in the station car park at Carrog, the present terminus of the heritage line... I can recommend the cakes and friendly service here in the cosy station buffet!
LUC 204 was an AEC Regal IV with Metro Cammell bodywork. London Transport referred to them as RF class, and in this case, 'Private Hire' RF. Hampson's coaches, not a million miles away in Oswestry were perhaps the last commercial operators of this type of RF with two used on town services up till about 1980.

Crewe's former British Rail office block, 'Rail House' on the corner of Nantwich Road and Gresty Road is a Cheshire landmark which can be seen from miles around on a clear day. I don't suppose that a great deal of it is still in use in the manner for which it was intended, but at least it currently survives.
Whilst driving the Heritage Centre - Station shuttle today, and finding access to the concourse bus stops blocked by parked cars, I had to find somewhere else to be, pending my return journey. Here ex PMT PSU4 (short) Marshall bodied Leyland Leopard TVT127G sits momentarily outside the above building for a photograph in the strong low winter sunshine.

Ex Saint Helens RT BDJ 67 plods up the incline out of the Lathalmond museum complex making a break for freedom and the main road to Dunfermline. I'd already taken a couple of shots of this bus, so opted to go for something a little different ... perhaps too different ;-)
