Right off the shuttlebus from our hotel a woman put her stick on our shoulders to take pictures...then she threw a bag of cut pineapple and another of bananas in our hands and tried to charge us like 30000 Dong each!!! (thats like 2 dollars) A man passing said it shouldn´t be more than 15000 Dong and we barganied it down to that...only to find out after he mean 15000 for the two of us, not each one. I guess those foreigners fresh off the boat really stick out like a sore thumb. We left the pineapple somewhere cause we were afraid of getting sick since it was already peeled and your aren´t supposed to eat the food unless it is cooked or peeled yourself.

Powell Point is another narrow spur along the West Rim Drive, on which is built a granite memorial to John Wesley Powell, erected to commemorate his two groundbreaking explorations of the Colorado River in 1869 and 1872. The point is only a 10 minute walk through the pine woods from the next lookout, so many people hike rather than wait for the next shuttlebus. The river is not in view since it flows deep within its inner granite gorge.
The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in the state of Arizona in the United States. The Grand Canyon is 446 km long, up to 29 km wide and up to 1,800 meters deep. Nearly two billion years of Earth's geological history have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted. Recent evidence suggests that the Colorado River established its course through the canyon at least 17 million years ago. Since that time, the Colorado River continued to erode and form the canyon to its present-day configuration.
We visited the Grand Canyon on June 29, 2008. We started the visit on the South Rim, and visited several lookouts by car, by foot, and even by shuttle, before driving four hours (300km) to the North Rim.
