Small "true" bug, about 4-5mm
The tip of the forewing of Heteroptera is fairly thick (~1.2 microns), thus there is no color iridescence visible (brown curve). The base is even thicker and leathary. This is the origin of the name "hemiptera" which means "half-winged". The newer name Heteroptera means also "mixed-wings". This leads to the typical "X" structure of the closed wings in dorsal view, which is an easy means to identify "true" bugs.
Hind wings in contrast, are much thinner (~0.2 microns here), which leads to a brillant blue-violett if illuminated coaxially.

Now that I have shown glimpses of the old concrete grain bins, steel barn, and combine, it is time to post a photo of the whole scene. These relics are no longer in use, but you can see that they are isolated in huge fields. I am not sure what is grown here, but I suspect it is hay or wheat. This is Cache Valley, Utah, just south of the Idaho border, and it has a great view of the Bear River Range.
Since the razor is shown diagonally, approximately 2.362 inches are visible.

I've shown this antique gun before, but never in action, because that's not something you shoot in a hurry. It's a muzzle loader and really heavy, it needs a support to hold it kinda horizontally.
It's filed down to octagonal shape from an old nail with a 1.5mm bore in the front. The stock is from beechwood, coloured with black tea, the cock of the flintlock is part of a cast letter (see 1st comment for details)
The width of the image is within pixel accuracy 76mm, so still 0.2mm short of 3"

Nash Point lighthouses, the 'high light' is shown near right, the foghorn building centre-left with the remains of the 'low light' behind it. The extensive complex also includes keeper accommodations and early radio facilities. Some of the buildings are now holiday lets and weddings are hosted here.
Shown at 2019 Pebble Beach Concours, This progressive hybrid concept car combines a 4 cylinder Turbo with electric motors, something everyone appears to be doing now. The Matte Neon 'Thrilling Orange' hearkens back to the 1972 BMW Turbo, and Neon is too mild a description.
The exhibition Blind, shown at La Maison d'Aneli, will close friday July 22th.
The exhibition explores our denial of the studied, validated, stated, detailed crisis of climate change for which we are collectively responsible : natural, economic, social and demographic disasters. And yet we do nothing, but continue our frenzy of senseless consumption and expend our energy in war.
The exhibition consists of five themes displayed in an original 3D and video installation, thirteen images and seven short stories.
Blind is the first part of "The 5th Season" an artwork in three parts.
The seven short stories, published on The Carbone Studio website , feature Tiresias, Daphne, Oedipus and his daughter Antigone, Clarissa Dalloway, and George and Martha, characters from the play "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" in stories that take place in our time.

Inside "Captured Nebula" by Gamma Infinity

A multiple exposure blended in photoshop. My Sony does not have a multiple exposure setting in-camera so I blended several images in Photoshop.
An Oregon Junco has shown up at my bird feeder. A rarity around here, this north-south migrant's closest breeding range is 2500 kilometres to the west. Once a full species, it is now subsumed within the Dark-eyed Junco group. Unfortunate, as it is readily identifiable and doesn’t hybridize much with the familiar grey and white eastern form.
To document the sighting I was able to take some quick photos through the living room window overseeing the feeder. While the bird was identifiable, the images were very poor quality. The next day I sat outside and waited in the snow under a deep grey sky. The special junco eventually appeared, but I found it difficult to get the right exposure of the dark bird in the dim light against a white background. After much fiddling in Lightroom this is the best I could do. I’m okay with it as it shows the bird well, albeit in a somewhat unrealistic setting.
Two winters ago I had a similar feeder visitor in the form of a Gambel’s Sparrow from western Canada (see photo below in comments). This again is an identifiable come-from-away subspecies of a familiar local bird - the White-crowned Sparrow. While the Oregon and Gambel’s are nice guests, next winter I’m hoping a genuine full species western rarity drops by -- maybe a Green-tailed Towhee!

I have shown the inside of the shell - normally the outside layer of the shell is ground off to reveal the side normally used for Jewellery.
Paua is a species of abalone (Haliotis Iris), with a very special shell. It is only found in the seas around New Zealand. This marine snail eats seaweed and lives clinging to the rocks at depths of 1-10 metres, normally found around most of the NZ rocky shoreline, but it grows biggest and best in the cold waters around Stewart Is. and Southland, which is where Rei Jewellery Ltd. gets its paua shell. Paua shell is the most colourful of all the abalone shells. Most other abalone are pale in comparison.
The Paua grows its shell by secreting successive layers of calcium carbonate that reflect light in a rainbow style display. The mix of turquoise blue, green, pink and purple varies greatly from one shell to the next. Layers are separated by a black film of protein that resembles contour lines on a topographic map. Paua grows 1mm to 2mm per month, depending on availability of food, temperature variants and water quality.
Like our local Blue Jays, this one displayed a lot of attitude, as will be shown in a future post.

The great tit (Parus major) is a passerine bird in the tit family Paridae. It is a widespread and common species throughout Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and east across the Palearctic to the Amur River, south to parts of North Africa where it is generally resident in any sort of woodland; most great tits do not migrate except in extremely harsh winters. Until 2005 this species was lumped with numerous other subspecies. DNA studies have shown these other subspecies to be distinctive from the great tit and these have now been separated as two distinct species, the cinereous tit of southern Asia, and the Japanese tit of East Asia. The great tit remains the most widespread species in the genus Parus.
Shown here is a row of three buses all stacked up nicely on the same route at Putney Heath bus stand, during the Route 93 Running Day event being held today, covering the whole historical route split into two sections from Putney Heath to Epsom and North Cheam to Dorking.
On the left and right side are the two Heritage Routemaster guests on shuttle service duty towards North Cheam, whilst DOE41 that now currently operates the modern day route 93 got curtailed short to Putney Heath and was lucky enough to join in the photo shoot.

All the photos I present were taken in the town of Taormina;
I made photos related to "street photography";
I photographed people who, for the most part, I had never met before, performing their portraits, I thank them for their sympathy and availability;
The volcano Etna, in recent days has shown an intense eruptive activity, I photographed that spectacular eruptions from Taormina;
I tried to capture minimal photographic stories, collected walking down the street .. ... in search of fleeting moments ...
For some photographs I used a particular photographic technique at the time of shooting, which in addition to capturing the surrounding space, also "inserted" a temporal dimension, with photos characterized by being moved because the exposure times were deliberately lengthened, they are confused -focused-imprecise-undecided ... the Anglo-Saxon term that encloses this photographic genre with a single word is "blur", these images were thus created during the shooting phase, and not as an effect created subsequently, in retrospect, in the post-production.

il vulcano Etna, nei giorni scorsi ha mostrato una intensa attività eruttiva, anche con intensi fenomeni chiamati "fontane di lava", emissioni a getto continuo perdurate intensamente per molti minuti, di altissime "fontane" di magma incandescente, molto spettacolari e non comuni, le fotografie dell'Etna sono state realizzate da Taormina;
ho provato a cogliere storie fotografiche minime, raccolte camminando per la strada ... alla ricerca di attimi fugaci s-fuggenti ...
Ho utilizzato per alcune fotografie una tecnica fotografica particolare al momento dello scatto, che oltre a catturare lo spazio circostante, ha "inserito" anche una dimensione temporale, con foto caratterizzate dall’essere mosse poiché volutamente sono stati allungati i tempi di esposizione, sono confuse-sfocate-imprecise-indecise...il termine anglosassone che racchiude con una sola parola questo genere fotografico è "blur", queste immagini sono state così realizzate in fase di scatto, e non come un effetto creato successivamente, a posteriori, in fase di post-produzione.

Winnats Pass (or Winnats, as shown on some Ordnance Survey maps) is a hill pass and limestone gorge in the Peak District of Derbyshire, England. The name is a corruption of 'wind gates' due to the swirling winds through the pass. It lies west of the village of Castleton, in the National Trust's High Peak Estate and the High Peak borough of Derbyshire. The road winds through a cleft, surrounded by high limestone ridges. At the foot of the pass is the entrance to Speedwell Cavern, a karst cave accessed through a flooded lead mine, and which is a popular tourist attraction.
A local legend is that the pass is haunted by a young couple Alan and Clara who eloped in 1758, only to be robbed and murdered by miners as they headed through Winnats Pass, on their way to Peak Forest Chapel. The miners hid their bodies in a mine shaft where they were discovered 10 years later.
In the 1930s Winnats Pass was the location used for annual access relays in support of greater access to the moorlands or the Peak District, around the time of the Mass Trespass of Kinder Scout. At their peak these were attended by up to 10,000 people.
The permanent closure of the main A625 road at Mam Tor in 1979 due to subsidence has resulted in Winnats Pass being heavily used by road traffic. However, the narrowness of the road and its maximum gradient of over 28% (1 in 3 1⁄2) has caused it to be closed to buses, coaches and vehicles over 7.5 tonnes in weight. The road regularly features in the Tour of the Peak cycle race each autumn.

A real old-fashioned grocery store shown with everything that goes with it. In the "good old days" without supermarkets you had small, cozy grocery stores and the groceries went over the counter in paper cones.
Een echte ouderwetse kruidenierswinkel getoond met alles wat er bij hoort. In de "De goeie oude tijd " zonder supermarkten had je kleine, knusse grutterswinkeltjes en gingen de kruidenierswaren in papieren puntzakjes over de toonbank.
Ein echter altmodischer Lebensmittelladen mit allem, was dazugehört. In der „guten alten Zeit“ ohne Supermärkte gab es kleine, gemütliche Lebensmittelläden und Lebensmittel wurden in Papiertüten verkauft.
Une véritable épicerie à l'ancienne présentée avec tout ce qui va avec. Au « bon vieux temps », sans supermarchés, il y avait de petites épiceries confortables et les produits d'épicerie étaient vendus dans des cornets en papier.

Like many areas of the world, my area of Michigan has a road known for its 'Tunnel of Trees' . . . local road M119. It is a scenic drive, but I find the tree tunnel to be secondary to the other things to be seen along the way. The St. Ignatius of Loyola Church and Cemetery is one of those things. There is quite a story behind this church and cemetery that is told in the next paragraph. Here it is shown as an Impressionist painter might have presented it centuries ago.
By the 1740s, French Catholic missionaries had come to this area of Michigan known to the local Native American Odawa people as Waganakising. The missionaries were here to stay. Other missionaries followed including Bishop Frederic Baraga (1797-1868), who dedicated a church at this site on August 1, 1833, The present St. Ignatius Church was constructed in 1889 to replace the one destroyed by fire that same year. The cemetery next to the church contains the graves of generations of area Odawa and dates to before the present church. In the 1970s, an Odawa caretaker of the cemetery placed the white wooden crosses to denote the many unmarked graves.

Shown life-size, at least from my perspective. I hiked the Pump Station Trail on nearby Eno River last Saturday to perhaps catch the last of the local autumn color. Working my way off the trail to the river to look at a possible composition sent me through a tangle of old spider webs. Keeping my eye on the path, I ran headlong into a web spanned across tall milkweeds that was, how shall we say, occupado. I realized it about the time one of these critters came into focus appearing quite this size at the bridge of my nose. I startled it likely more than it did me… it retreated behind a dried leaf as I bounded through its web. I can imagine her watching me approach through eight compound eyes, “Oh, yeah. Ohhh, yeah! Oh, no!” That pretty spider made for a more fitting composition. There were many more hanging around in their webs, just waiting to have their pictures taken. “Smile… and don’t blink.” This is an Araneus marmoreus spider, commonly known as a marbled orbweaver, but it’s also known by some other names… any guesses? If you thought pumpkin spider or Halloween spider, you would be right. One of my contacts pointed out that it has candy corn legs. I'm not ashamed to admit that I love candy corn, though in small quantities. It may be more an issue of good memories of Halloweens past when I was a kid. With that in mind, I'm throwing in candy corn spider, too... it just fits. It's backlit in this image, and the web is refracting the light like strands of rainbow.

God gave a gift to the world when you were born—
a person who loves, who cares,
who sees a person’s need and fills it,
who encourages and lifts people up,
who spends energy on others
rather than herself,
someone who touches each life she enters,
and makes a difference in the world,
because ripples of kindness flow outward
as each person you have touched, touches others.
Your birthday deserves to be a national holiday,
because you are a special treasure
for all that you’ve done.
