From the workshop 'Precise Drawing applied to Human Scale', run by Pascal Bronner and Thomas Hillier.

I took this photo in February 2010 inside the local swimming hall of my village Vágur. We have a very good swimmer here. His name is Pál Joensen, he is 19 years old, and he has already won silver at the European Swimming Championship 2010 in Budapest. We are so proud of him, not only we who live in his village, but all Faroese people. We are only 50.000 who live here, and we don't even have a 50 meter swimming pool in our country, and yet, we have an elite swimmer, who trains daily in our 25 meter long pool here in Vágur, and manages to win silver at the European Swimming Championship 2010. His trainer is Jón Bjarnason, he is also from my village Vágur. He has improved the standard of the swimmers here very much since he moved back from Denmark and started coaching the young people here. Several of them have had good results and have sat Faroese records.

Pál Joensen swam with the time 14.56.90 in Budapest on 11 August 2010, which was new Nordic record. Pál was the only Nordic man who made it to the finals. Not even any British man made it to the finals. The 8 men who swam in the final and their results:

1. Sebastien Rouault, France 14:55.17

2. Pál Joensen, Faroe Islands 14:56.90

3. Samuel Pizzetti, Italy 14:59.76

4. Federico Colbertaldo, Italy 15:06.92

5. Mateusz Sawrymowicz, Poland, 15:12.28

6. Anthony Pannier, France, 15:16.02

7. Gergely Gyurta, Hungary, 15:19.27

8. Przemyslaw Stanczyk, Poland, 15:24.26.

Pál Joensen participated also in the 800 meter freestyle in Budapest, he made it to the final with the fourth best time, and he became number 5 to the final, which was two days after the 1500 meter final. Pál sat new Faroese record when he swam to the final in 800 meter freestyle with the time 7:53.11. Only one second from the Nordic record. The winner of the 800 meter freestyle was again the French man Sebastien Rouault who swam with the time 7:48.28. I watched both finals in Eurosport. The Faroese television showed the finals too.

Pál Joensen holds many of the national swimming records of the Faroe Islands. He swam in other events than freestyle at the Island Games 2009 in Åland Islands, Finland and sat most of his records there, i.e. in breaststroke, butterfly and individual medley.
