Mark, a 35 year old man, was raised by his grandfather, a fisherman in the Azores island.
Both graceful and caring, his grandfather was a also a hardboiled and stubborn man, who only knew the ways of the sea and the island's hard life.
Mark knew there was more to life than being surrounded with water - and left, never saying goodbye.
The old man died never knowing why he left.
Mark now returns to tell him, even if he can't hear it.

A huddled mass of naked men, women and children stand cold and afraid, waiting to be locked into an armored vehicle. Outside, watching with the rigidity and passivity of robots, stand an equally huddled mass of men and women in business suits. They stare on as a child lets out a blood-curdling scream.

This was an unintentional short film that was put together from extra footage from another short film. We didn't realize that the camera was rolling while we were setting up the shot.
I added some music and edited the video some. It's not much... I find it a little humorous though. It is what it is though.
The title refers to the orange piece of tape used as a place marker at the beginning, it has the word "pills" written on it.
Hopefully someone else will find it interesting....

“Masquerade” is my most recent film as of the creation of this portfolio. We were given no strict brief and as a result I found myself free to attempt ambitious undertakings. In this projected I directed, edited, composed the soundtrack and acted. Drawing heavy thematic inspiration from the work of Anthony Burgess and the mise-en-scene of Guilermo Del Toro I wanted to explore a metaphorical world where the threat of a fascist government is personified through a monster that hunts our protagonists. I attempted to push my boundaries as a filmmaker by creating this monster using 3D printing and green screen techniques for the body and a very short animation for the reveal of the face. The soundtrack was written by relying on notes of the Dies Irae, the commonly used musical symbol of death. The reuse of its notes were used to symbolise the state of catatonia the characters undergo when caught by the monster. Given the chance to remake the film I would plan for more days to shoot or shoot in Summer as we ran into multiple problems due to the quickly fading sunlight of Winter.
