You may be in for a shock if you want to use the phone in Belstone village. This red telephone box houses a defibrillator.
50 years of the fabulous F-16 was celebrated during RIAT 2024 and this 'tooled-up' Dutch KLu 'Viper' J-641 was caught making an ear-splitting departure from Fairford on departure day
No.312 Squadron sent four General-Dynamics F-16AMs - one of which was J-197 being specially marked while celebrating 45 years of F-16 operations. The other two were
J-014 & J-146
The KLu's F-16 ops were replaced by the F-35 taking on their role

So If you live in Southern Ontario you won't be too surprise by this photo. If you don't it was made possible by one of the best electrical storms I have ever seen! Actually there were 3 of them! Also I know its a little blue but I think it captures the blueness of the lightning!
It is shocking how lax the traffic safety laws are in India, with respect to riding motorcycles. Here we see a family of 4 on a motorcycle, 3 of whom aren't wearing a helmet. You can imaging what would happen to the 3 in an accident! Many motorcycle drivers I saw did not wear helmets, leather clothing, or bright colours for their safety, though many wore face masks because the air pollution.
Looking into this further, I discovered there are about 500,000 road accidents a year in India, with over 130,000 deaths - about one road death every four minutes. Sadly, 16 children die everyday on Indian roads!
A shocking sight beholds the photographer who is prepared to brave the busy A52 to the bridge crossing the Erewash Valley line to Chesterfield and Sheffield. Opposite Toton depot is a forlorn sight of Class 60s left to the elements. Technically stored but in reality abandoned in Old Bank Sidings.
Luckily this morning was grey and wet adding to the dismal atmosphere.
I am sure someone has a list of the locos to be seen.
Personally, I think it's a shame that this type of photo is so utterly oversaturated by "street photographers" that point their DSLRs at every single person that crosses their path, despite having no discernible quality whatsoever, that it has become completely irrelevant. I think it's a shame because it forms the basics of street photography and if done well can be pleasing and interesting on many levels.
One of the things I like about street photography is the challenge to portray the ordinary in an extraordinary way. We can't all be compositional masters, but taking the same photo over and over with a telephoto lens of random people walking towards you from the waist up surely can't be in any way fulfilling? It's not even trying.
Nor can it be fulfilling the empty comments that ensue. When the 'depth of field', 'subject separation', 'nice tones', 'good expression' gratuitous comments are exhausted it then follows to comment only on the subjects attributes, because the actual photo has no merit in its own right. It's not a considered photo that has been taken for any reason, it's random thoughtless snapping.
I have read the opinions of a few of these 'random-people-snappers' and they say how shocking it is, the style of Bruce Gilden and (recently highlighted) Tatsuo Suzuki and how they would only ever treat their subjects with respect etc. yet in their bodies of snaps they have hundreds (from their multiple thousands of almost identical captures) of images of disgruntled people staring into the lens angrily and obviously questioning why they are being photographed. I question it also and wonder what purpose these snaps could ever serve.
Some of these 'snappers' even teach street photography! I've always wondered what the conversation / lesson would go like...
Student: What should I do first?
Master Snapper: Buy an expensive camera.
Student: What about the settings?
Master Snapper: Auto.
Student: Now what?
Master Snapper: Point the camera at a person.
Student: Then?
Master Snapper: Press the shutter button.
Student: What about the composition?
Master Snapper: That is the composition.
Anyway, it's just an opinion. It's all subjective, right?
Bewegung und Geschwindigkeit der Jahrmarktkarussells im Bild festhalten.... das war mein Ziel... doch hierbei musste ich mich am Stativ festhalten ;-) ;-)

Pink for the Royal Princess (a bit of happy news for a change)
It's All About The Natural Light. Taken by natural light in a conservatory, it's the sun reflected in the paint :) HMM!
(187/366) Dairygold is running a second year of it's hugely successful “Wrap It Pink” campaign, in association with the Irish Cancer Society. Silage bales are covered in pink wrap instead of the standard black HFF!
Nauders castle, Tirol, Austria, a high altitude ski resort at the Italian border, I believe the castle is now a hotel. My Italian rental car had serious issues on the snow covered streets here, a tip for travelers: Never rent a car in Italy in winter if you want to visit the Alps, as almost no vehicles are equipped with winter tires, even with the reputable agencies, they charge a "winterisation fee" regardless, but no antifreeze in the window washing liquid, and no snow tires. 2 weeks later I rented a car in Germany for the same price, with the same company, (Hertz), the difference in quality was shocking, I wanted to keep that car forever.
Or not as is the case here. A defunct defibrillator at the end of our lane. The nearest one is in a village nearly 4 miles away. Hope we never need to avail of it. Happy Sign Sunday!
Two plug adapters for grounded plugs to work with non-grounded outlets. Have'nt needed these in a very long time.

The fabulous and dynamic French Air Force 'Couteau Delta' tactical display team flying their Dassault Mirage 2000D's at RIAT 2018
The team comes from Escadrons de Chasse 2/3 'Champagne' and 3/3 'Ardennes' at Nancy-Ochey and during their performance, they show the public some of the maneouvers commonly used during real combat operations

The "Shocking Pink" color of this "daisy" (Marguerite ?) caught my attention together with the beautiful curved petal and the contrast with the green foliage. Seen along the Aloe Trail at the Los Angeles County Arboretum. Hit "L" for a closer look !
Pileated woodpeckers always look shocked to me. This one was hunting around at the edge of our woods this morning, periodically exchanging very loud calls with (presumably) his mate
After spending a morning being beguiled by the gorgeous details in the woods, the moisture hanging in the mosses, the rich red soil and softly decaying stumps, it was almost shocking to emerge into this scene. The late morning light was just hanging in the air between the banks, lighting up the cold December water as it swept over the canyon's rocks. I love this place.
