Saturday at Frederik Meijer Gardens with Phil

Received this heavy-duty sharpener sample from an E-bay retailer. Just conducted an initial review test with it, and I am suitable impressed with its smooth operation, solid construction, auto-stop feature that prevents waste, and the sturdy long points it produces on standard 8 mm pencils. Blog entry.

Bob has done a couple of paintings of the Speedboat Rooster, but I couldn't find them on his web site.

I was out in a classroom checking a computer problem and came across this sitting on the floor under the desk.

Experienced hands will of course recognise the cutting barrel of a desk mounted pencil sharpener.

Blessedly the body was there too and I was able to give the two a tearful reunion. :)

Edge Pro Knife Sharpener

After a bit of sharpening. The block plane blade on the wheel in the foreground won't fit in the adjustable-width port in the front of the device. You are supposed to be able to use the adjustable height black rod on the top as a rest upon which to place things like this blade, but it's essentially impossible to get a properly sharpened blade in this manner. It's more for things like axes and pocket knives, where perfect squareness doesn't matter. However, there is an attachment one can buy for the top that will allow [supposedly] perfectly 90ยบ edges on larger things, like this block plane blade.

Note the clump of steel wool-like stuff in the foreground, right. That's 'dust' from the sharpenings. It builds up very quickly, and sparks from the sharpening catch it on fire, and it burns pretty hot. I had to blow clumps of it off onto the floor and let them burn out on the concrete a few times. Very pretty, but as I said, hot. I had a bit of my melamine miter saw wing table here melt :)

Vivid colour. Pencil atop sharpener and shavings. I should have been working but thought it looked quite good.

The Kikkerland Camera Pencil Sharpener is "Tight". Not only does it look cool, it's actually a really good pencil sharpener. It grips the pencil shaft and spring tension pulls the pencil in as you crank the handle. You can also adjust it from more to less sharp. All in all - it's "tight"! Canon 5D Mark II, 1/13 sec @ f/8, ISO 800, 100mm macro lens and an LED ring light.
