welcome to art class please take a seat.

never in my life have i been unhappy to go to art class.

until now.

why? there is no creativity involved. we read chapters from our book on what makes a piece of art "acceptable" and how all the elements work together harmoniously and hold happy hands in a field of flowers. a very black/and/white field of boringness. we study these elements, then we write up a nice 4 paragraph analysis on the piece. so very technical.

on to drawing portion! now let's all get out our rulers and measure our proportions just perfect. everything shall line up and become the 'perfect' piece of art. visually pleasing, but mindless. how nice. we draw hands. yes, hands. and still lifes of plastic fruit and wooden boxes. we must capture the entire scene not zone in on one section. no, no. abstract thinking is unacceptable.

i was about to blow my brains out during class today. i started talking to a wall. in my head. because it was more interesting.

Kestrel - Turmfalke

Der Turmfalke ist der am häufigsten vorkommende Falke Mitteleuropas. Der Öffentlichkeit ist er relativ vertraut, da er sich auch Städte und Stadträume als Lebensraum erobert hat und öfter beim „Rüttelflug“ zu beobachten ist. 2007 war der Turmfalke in Deutschland und 2008 in der Schweiz „Vogel des Jahres“.

The Kestrel is the most common Falcon in Central Europe. It is relatively Familiar to the public because it has also conquered cities and urban spaces as a habitat and can often be seen “shaking flight”. In 2007 the kestrel was “Bird of the Year” in Germany and in 2008 in Switzerland.

While waiting at the Richmond Marina Bay for the Western Grebe's ceremonious dance we were entertained by this Eared Grebe that was so preoccupied with grooming that he just kept swimming in circles as he moved along the shoreline in front of us. I kept waiting for the big 'shake and fluff'...when it happened he put very little effort into it!

I finally made it over to Coyote Hills yesterday with friends to get in on some of the action of the Peregrine Falcon whose beautiful images have been posted on Flickr for a couple weeks or so. Only briefly saw the adult at a distance (darn) but it appears this juvenile has taken over the dead tree it occupied...no problem...still a falcon.

There were several photographers when we arrived all waiting for him to bring a catch back to this tree...it didn't happen (again darn) but we were entertained by his frequent flights to and from this tree landing in different locations, some needing a lazer pruner to clear out the dead knarly branches (which has not been invented..again darn), but when he landed on this branch giving us a clear shot he decided to 'shake it off' and forget about the dinner he didn't catch!....thank you falcon!

If you are old enough, you will remember the days less appropriate when sexism sold, well lucky that doesn't happen anymore.

On last weeks motorbike ride, we ended up at Ricks Garage in Palmwoods Queensland, a place that the Fonz would have been happy to be at. I have some more pictures for another day.

Osprey shakes off excess water after diving under the surface to catch the fish it has in its talons.

The Blue Herons cannot get enough fish and I cannot get enough Blue Herons.

This has been sitting on my kitchen table for a few days. Ordinatily I'd clear them away from there quicker, but my sons loves it, especially pretending to drink it up, it's super cute.

Sometimes I get really bored with my photos. I feel like I have a hard time stepping out of my box. I need force myself to try something new. I find the easiest thing to do is to slap on a different lens. This is not my favourite lens so I don't tend to use it very often but it occasionally takes a photo I like. ;)

A quick shake after diving in.

I often get comments like "poor horses they must be cold in the snow." This is Nevaeh and she just took a roll in the snow and is now shaking the snow off. My best horse images have been in winter as it seems that's when they are the most active. They love the snow!

I love a good wet dog shake but it's not always a good photo. This one I like :)
