This Green Heron, one of my favorite birds, was prepared to strike at one of the small fish nearby. Herons in general will wait patiently, while watching intently, until breakfast happens to come near, then strike with its dagger-like bill. Sometimes they are successful, sometimes not. This time this heron was not quite fast enough.

When possible, I try to emulate the heron's methods while waiting for a photo.

Just a shadow of a Belgian horse was visible in the fog that rose over the meadows at sunset, creating a very special atmosphere! [Explored on 04/01/2023, #102]

I took a drive through rural Indiana yesterday. I've driven most of the roads plenty of times before but still find something new to photograph each time. Also sad to see a few old places have disappeared or are quickly disappearing, but more on that later.

This old house stands in the shadows of the surrounding trees. Vines typically cover the walls making it blend in with the surrounding landscape. However on this rather cool day in early spring, you can see this house and all of its glory.

Soft light in Philly. This is one of the very few images worth showing that I was so far able to take with a cell phone.

...it's been waiting in the wings for a while so I thought it deserved a turn at centre stage :-)

I spotted a couple of migrating wood ducks in the creek in difficult lighting conditions and did the best I could.

Completely captivated by your light movements...

It gets deeper the more I try to escape...

I’m falling

Endlessly"

If only for this encounter the boggy Eliott River Loop track was worthwhile the effort: for the third time (and first time this year) in my life the elusive Bassian Thrush came out of the dark into an area where I could take several shots of it. 1/125 shutter speed was a bit challenging but I'm not on good terns with very high ISO values.

AAW November 14 - 21: Shadows

WIT: Got three forks, put them on a white background, and used a maglight to make the shadows.

Oh, I didn't read the brief properly, so should not have included the forks. Oops!

The full moon came out of hiding and gave some shadowy outlines to the outdoors.

No matter how beautiful something is, there is always a shadowy side, a corner or a part that is not beautiful or even neglected. But this too is part of the whole and therefore an integral part. Even in the beautiful city.
