These are shadows on a sheer curtain. The lines are from window blinds. I laid on the floor and took the photo looking up.

The sun hid behind a very large cloud right before sunset, resulting in one of the more interesting cloud shadows that I have ever witnessed.

Even in the middle of January not all the leaves finished turning. This one was decorated by shadows.

For the Macro Mondays theme "Shadow". This is the shadow cast by shining a mobile phone LED light through a measuring/marking tool (essentially a perforated metal sheet). The 4 rows of staggered dots allow you to mark to a precision of 1/64th off an inch. The vertical size of the frame is more than 2 inches and well less than 3. HMM!

Shadow of Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead tv series. This is an action figure and its head is less than 1". I used the sunlight coming through the window and a white paper background. And it looks like a silhouette, too. A bit confusing, isn't it?

▪There is a little difference between a silhouette and a shadow and I was reading about it. This is the photo of the shadow that I took directly from the white paper. If I had wanted to take a silhouette, I would have taken a photo of the figure against a lighted background. In this way, only the dark object would be seen against that background of light, but without leaving a shadow on it. This is how I understand it, but I get more confused when people see the photo and continue calling it a silhouette.▪

Trees and shadows on a winter day in the country.

We make our own cross

When sorrow comes to haunt our days

But whichever god you follow

The pain and grief stubbornly stays

You think you have defeated me

No more worshipping you say

But if you wait for long enough

Until the shadows lengthen

And the world grows silent

This is when the shadows move

Across the bleak earth

In search of the dark angel

Their forbidden lord

When time is suspended

And the light is abhorred

This is when you will wish for me

To bring back the light before the fall

And you will long for me

In that space of time

Between the choice of the shadows

And the eternal soul

Although this poem has been written for some time I have written these notes about the poem after seeing the desperate plight of the survivors in Turkey and Syria in the past two days. As each hour goes by the death toll goes up after the devastating two earthquakes and aftershocks in their countries.

What is true desperation? I think we have been witnesses to it in these terrible days. Sometimes in our lives there are times when desperation strikes, when all is at a loss. It can take many forms and be a different experience for each one of us.

But I am not going to dwell on this. I can only tell you that my own personal experience of desperation afforded me a shattering realisation, one that ultimately opened my heart wide to belief.

This poem might well be cold comfort for some. For others they might look for a light.

But may you find peace in your life.

This image belongs to my series of works that form my ‘Christ Tree Poems’ and you can find them in my Album here on Flickr.

I have also paired this work with Lisa Gerrard’s ‘Sanvean’ [I Am Your Shadow] which is perfect for this work, as she communes with the Divine in her own powerful moving way with her voice.

Leaves and trees, birds and flowers, butterflies, lakes and rivers these are a few of my "favorite things" to photograph!

Since this week the weather doesn't show a sing of improvement in this area of PA, I'm choosing this one that I took last November. I like the shadows and soft tones that the camera captured on this one.

It was early in the morning, and the light was soft and perfect, a little cold but I was wearing warm boots and everything else for the long hike. Canada geese were all over the place, which from time to time surprised me with the noise they make with their wings. Deer also were trying to find something to eat close by. Some leaves were laying on the ground, still frozen before the sun warmed them later that day...

Have a great day everyone:

Photography is my passion, and nature photography is my favorite.

I have been in Explore for more that a hundred times, and it is an awesome experience to have your photos showcased in such a special way.

I'm in many groups, and I only add my photos to them if they are not private.

I thank your for coming today, for leaving a comment, and make a favorite of yours this photo, (if that is the case) thanks again!

The best part of this forum is the contacts and friends that I have made over the years, that have the same passion for this art that is called photography!

HMM-- the theme for today, 7/15, is "patterns in nature" and this is one possibility for posting :) i think this one is my favorite of the five :) so this is a sentimental choice :)

normally her longest whisker is almost 3 inches but she had turned her head to see what i was doing, so curved they all fell well within the 3 inch parameters!!

Shadows on a piece of a card - for Macro Mondays group. HMM!

Shadows evening light, the sun is low and created this shadow pattern on weathered wood.

This are just some nice shadows I saw in Luzern at the Vierwaldstättersee around noon. I liked how they lined up almost perfectly. I took this on my small Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ101 at 9.1 mm, f/6.3, 1/800 s, ISO 125.
