A bronze statue ‘Embracing Peace’ depicts an image taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt that portrays a U.S. Navy sailor embracing and kissing a woman. While one might think this is a couple of lovers kissing, it isn’t. This sailor did this multiple times as he walked through the crowd on many unsuspecting women, up and down the boardwalk. This iconic image was clearly an unwarranted sexual assault on a woman in a crowd, without her consent. This statue created by Seaward Johnson has been on display worldwide. Washington DC, October 4, 2018. Thousands gathered here today for a rally and march to oppose the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court. The very large, diverse* and energized crowd of protesters assembled at the E. Barrett Prettyman United States Court House and then marched to the U.S. Supreme Court for a rally with speeches. Judge Kavanaugh has been accused of sexual assault by at least three women and of lying to Congress numerous times by many prominent legislators. Today's action is a continuation of weeks of nationwide non-violent protests against Kavenaugh that have resulted in over a thousand arrests. Over three hundred were arrested in the Hart Senate Office Building atrium just this evening. Despite the best efforts of the protesters it is expected that the morally bankrupt Senate Republicans will stumble Kavenaugh's confirmation over the finish line on Friday or Saturday. Why? Kavanaugh will compliantly hand President Donald J. Trump a "get out of jail free" card if an anticipated and much deserved impeachment proceeding is launched when the balance of power in Congress shifts to the Democrats.
*Women led the way by far in numbers and were the chief organizers, the most militant and the most arrested.
