Washington DC, October 4, 2018. Thousands gathered here today for a rally and march to oppose the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court. The very large, diverse* and energized crowd of protesters assembled at the E. Barrett Prettyman United States Court House and then marched to the U.S. Supreme Court for a rally with speeches. Judge Kavanaugh has been accused of sexual assault by at least three women and of lying to Congress numerous times by many prominent legislators. Today's action is a continuation of weeks of nationwide non-violent protests against Kavenaugh that have resulted in over a thousand arrests. Over three hundred were arrested in the Hart Senate Office Building atrium just this evening. Despite the best efforts of the protesters it is expected that the morally bankrupt Senate Republicans will stumble Kavenaugh's confirmation over the finish line on Friday or Saturday. Why? Kavanaugh will compliantly hand President Donald J. Trump a "get out of jail free" card if an anticipated and much deserved impeachment proceeding is launched when the balance of power in Congress shifts to the Democrats.
*Women led the way by far in numbers and were the chief organizers, the most militant and the most arrested.

By inviting him to speak, the Cambridge Union risks colluding with attitudes that condone or trivialise violence against women. Ironically the event comes one day after International Women's Day (8th March) when people around the globe will be taking action on sexual and other violence against women." - Holly Dustin, Director of the End Violence Against Women Coalition

As part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a representative from CARDV (Coalition Against Rape and Domestic Violence) educated William Woods students about domestic violence prevention and how to create awareness of the issue. This LEAD event took place on Oct. 14, in the Ivy Room on the lower level of Tucker Dining Hall.
In addition, the students learned about different situations the victims of domestic violence are in and the struggles they endure.
The event concluded with students painting canvases with facts and quotes for CARDV to display.
Domestic Violence Awareness is the national philanthropy of Alpha Chi Omega, one of the four sororities on the William Woods campus.

Community organizations working to safeguard vulnerable young people from gang involvement and protect victims of domestic, sexual and other forms of violence will benefit from nearly $7.2 million in government grants supporting public safety priorities.
This represents the largest-ever one-time grants investment in community crime prevention in BC, combining $5.5 million in provincial Civil Forfeiture Office (CFO) proceeds and $1.69 million from criminal forfeiture proceeds.
Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General Mike Morris made the announcement at Richmond's Touchstone Family Association, which is receiving a $100,000 grant for its successful youth-focused Street Smarts program offering support for kids at risk of gang involvement.
