it doubles as an electrical room... far too hot for the computers IMHO, but they seem to fair ok despite this.

Ok, not really. :-) This is the back of one of the rows of servers in my data room. We're not the neatest shop in the world but you don't want to see what it looked like before I got my hands on it. We are moving out operations to a hosted data center soon but we'll always have a number of servers in the office for dev and hosting. It'll be nice to not have to worry about production servers, though, as the data center staff will be responsible.

2U server chassis with 12 3.5" SATA hot-swap drive bays. Comes with motherboard and 2.4GHz Xeon (1st generation) with 2x 256MB ECC DIMMs. Disk controller is a 3ware Escalade 8506-12 hardware RAID PCI-X card. 2.5" IDE drive nestled inside for operating system.

Doesn't Everybody have one of these ... running its heart out .. sitting in back of the entertainment center. Doing whatever.. It started its life sitting as parts in a local frys electronics. Then Put together to be a Freebsd Server.. running 2.5 (Still have the Walnut Creek CDS) Still running to this day.. I think that was back in 96? Original HDD a wopping 4 gigs. (Seagate made good drives) ..

Our workbench is full of random server parts right now. Here's Ben Kero (our summer intern in 2005) building a server out of all those parts we have lying around.

Basix 59W x 34D x 62.5H - Frame Only. Two full depth maple lower shelves, 2x2 frame upgrade, total lock casters.

Mounted underneath my desk, running Ubuntu linux. Right now it's just an asterisk server, I'm hoping to get some file sharing going with it soon!
