It is the third highest mountain in Brazil, situated on the border of Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais states. It is the highest point in both states. It was historically considered the highest mountain in Brazil until 1965, when Pico da Neblina and Pico 31 de Março, next to the Venezuelan border, were explored, measured, and both found to be higher. The peak is said to have been so named after Pedro II, Emperor of Brazil, ordered a flag to be flown on top of it.
It is one of the major attractions of Caparaó National Park, accessible from the nearby town of Alto Caparaó. That town and the entrance to the park lie in Minas Gerais, but the summit of Pico da Bandeira lies in Espírito Santo.
The summit is accessible to hikers of most age groups, with only very limited fitness requirements. The track from the park entrance to the summit track [8 km (5.0 mi)] can be driven by most vehicles, and the summit track itself runs for approximately 9 km (5.6 mi), with a further 1,000 m (3,280 ft) climb.

#3: Pico da Bandeira (2,892 m / 9,488 ft), Brazil;
#4: Pico do Calçado* (2,849 m / 9,347 ft), Brazil;

The difference from the third highest to the first is only 101.80 meters / 334 ft in altitude.
I climbed the third, fourth and sixth in Brazil this weekend. Only the sixth mountain is challenging.
* For reasons of topographical prominence, the IBGE considers Pico do Calçado a secondary peak of Pico da Bandeira and not a separate mountain.

The field contains:
Left side of frame -IC405 (The Flaming Star Nebula -aka SH2-229 or Caldwell 31) an emission/reflection nebula in the northern part of Auriga. It surrounds the irregular, blue star AE Auriga and is about 1500 light years from Earth.
Center upper right - IC410 (The Tadpoles Nebula) a dusty emission nebula/stellar nursery at about 12.000 light years from Earth that illuminated by the star cluster NGC1893 which is about 4 million years old so still relatively young. The nebula is noted for the ”tadpole” structures that have been created by the radiation pressure from the stars in NGC189.
Right side of frame - IC417 (The Spider Nebula) – An emission nebula lit up by massive hot stars that is currently producing new stars. It is located about 10,000 light years from Earth.

During the summer, American lotus (Nelumbo lutea) flowers produce large, sweetly scented, and cream to bright yellow flowers. Seeds are borne in pods that resemble a showerhead; the individual round seeds are up to 1.5 inches (4 cm) in diameter. While fresh seeds are firm and green, mature seeds are hard, brown, and persist in the pods after maturity.

They are quite melodious when they sing, hence their Latin name, but this on was quiet during the sequence I shot.
Broken Sequence - taken at low tide on West Wittering beach, UK, on a perfect blue sky afternoon in January.
Ugh, this one took over four hours to setup. This shells are tiny. Cleaning the shells, selecting the right one, oiling them up, so they would not dry out during the set up was time consuming. More so, as the setup collapsed and shells hit the carpet and collected all kinds of fibers. I had to ditch the first attempts and start from scratch.
NB the Kestrel did not move forward at all - I've had to displace each picture to show the sequence of wing movements.

Her eyes penetrated the text. She went over every letter of every word spelling, sounding out each, caressing every curve, every angle, every line, dots, strokes, going up, going down, imprinting each word, memorizing the feeling, touching every word of that text, so far away from her, so far away, like a distant memory of the voice of a woman sitting at a table next to hers, at the coffee shop, saying out loud things she could hear in passing, codes flying the distance between her mind and her ears, casual, ordinary.
It was as if she had just learned how to read or she's been deaf so long she couldn't remember when last she heard and now for the first time her nerves were tickled with the vibrations, vibrations of something slithery, something forbidden, a promise, perhaps, something promised beyond time, inhumane, farther, much farther, something familiar yet never permitted for her, ...perhaps secrets revealed from a long lost civilization, forgotten before known, unreachable to her, exclusive, as if she'd found herself uninvited in a location, dreamt.
Midway through she realized how her eyes were committing every nuance, not of the words, not of the sounds even, or only..., no..., not only words nor only sounds even, something deeper, every nuance of every curve, the shapes the letters, each, made on the line, in sequence, a code, not the spaces, not in meaning only even, no..., not even, odd, definitely oddly deep, ...deeper, her eyes were committing every shape of every letter, every nuance the lines immersed the sheet with.
It had broken her heart. Her heart had broken as it was meant to.

It is raining heavily outside and the Tesco grocery delivery driver visiting next door has just run our drive post over - again (don't think those 2 are linked). So I thought I would spend my enforced indoor time editing a sequence of 3 consecutive shots taken at the start of the month.
The male Common Kingfisher had just caught the fish (image at right) and then did a short flight to return to the perch facing the other way. By some miracle all 3 shots were in focus - this is not my skills, just the fact that the bird happened to pass through the same focal plane each time the shutter fired.
As I was using my tripod and the lens didn't move - the perspective is the same for all 3.

The Chase Is On - An adult male Golden Eagle pursues a California Ground Squirrel after missing his initial strike.
I was fortunate to witness an amazing moment of natural history when a Golden Eagle dropped down on this squirrel and actually chased his prey down on foot in an attempt to catch it.
This is the first image of the sequence that I captured of the eagle generating momentum with his wings and lunging at the squirrel. Typically, I see Golden Eagles moving rather awkwardly on land but this individual moved with agility and purpose.
I have been photographing Golden Eagles since 2013 and spent countless hours watching them soar, hunt and rest. At last I managed to document a hunting sequence in the wild last Christmas Eve.
