14/07/2024 - Milky Way featuring Landscape

Many strange colours present because the stacking software got confused because of light pollution and clouds. This is the first time I've tried to take a wide angle shot that included the ground. The difficulty with this is since the sky moves relative to the ground, it's hard to actually take a long exposure. I used a program called sequator which basically separates the ground and sky and processes them separately. The photo would look a lot nicer if there was no fog covering the horizon. Either way pretty good.

A wide field image of the comet of the year as it fades back into space not to reappear for another 80,000 years, with the milky way visible vertical on the left. The skyglow lower centre is the local city anbout 5 miles away and the strange red mist is actually wood smoke from a chimney in the village.

Photographed on 26th October 2024 with a Nikon D3100 and 18mm lens at F3.5 ISO1100, 39 images stacked in Sequator and processed in Affinity Photo, Siril, and Graxpert.

here and only my third Milky Way shoot from autumn last year.

The location is Paxton's Tower, a folly in Carmarthenshire, Wales, UK.

Sky is 30x 10 second exposures at f2.8 and ISO 3200, stacked in Sequator then processed in Lightroom.

The tower is 3x exposures of 30 seconds at f2.8 and ISO 1600, each lit with a head torch.

Then the sky file and the tower file were combined.

Camera was a Sony A7III and Zeiss Batis 18mm f2.8.

Just after I arrived a battery of floodlights came on, so I had to cover them all with jackets, parcel shelves, mats and carpets from the car before I could start.
