LOVE... the most potent of all human emotions. An emotion so powerful that it can take one to the highest heights or to the deepest depths of despair. LOVE has the uncanny ability to hear, to hurt, to come and to go. Ironically, in spite of it all, LOVE serves as the driving force of all human existence. Be it through music, poetry or the visual arts, artists have been compelled to reconcile the majesty of this emotion through their art for centuries. Contemporary artist, Henry Asencio is no exception. Noted for his beautiful forms of human expression, Asencio paints the human condition with an introspective sensuality unique to and celebrated in his work. Asencio’s Sentiments is a visual trilogy comprised of separate but beautifully related images that serve to commemorate but a few of the many dilemmas of love. From the painful longing and insatiable hunger for a lover (“Desire”), the introspection and fear that accompanies the hesitation of giving one’s heart to another (“Conviction”) to the ultimate comfort that follows one’s resignation to succumb - to give and receive love (“Liberation”). Quintessential Asencio in execution and style, the artist paints clues to his storytelling via color, posture, pose and intentional inscriptions etched into the impasto layers of his canvases. From “An acquired comfort” in “Conviction” to “Delam barat tang shode” (translated “I miss you”) in “Desire”- the artist invites us to read into his love to paint and his compulsion to paint about love. In the end, they are all “Sentiments” in which we find the “Liberation” to love.

My sister had to have her 16 year old terrier down this week and I wanted to send her a sympathy card. I didn't have any sentiments specifically for pet loss, so I used this sentiment and border die from Parentville by Winnie&Walter. The papers are leftover scraps from a collection by TPC Studios and that cute little dog stamp is by Prima. I colored him with Spectrum Noir markers and added some bakers twine The stitched rectangle die is by Lawn Fawn.

Podríem dir que al món hi ha molts de sentiments: amor, odi, felicitat, ganes de superació.. I, tot i que cadascú tingui una definició general, possiblement ningú obtingui la mateixa sensació.

En el meu cas, la majoria dels meus sentiments són moguts pel judo, des de fa relativament poc. Abans, era més un sentiment de motivació, d'autosuperació.. Ara, tot i que aquests sentiments siguin sobre la taula, hi ha una cosa molt important que també és present: els judokes més petits.

Aquells són els anomenats "mini-judokes". Aquells què, tot i que no sentin el judo com un esport de vida, sí que el senten com a forma de diversió. I açò és el que toca.

Què és el que més m'agrada d'ells? Podria començar, però no acabar. Comences a pensar petites coses com:

1. Ostia, que em miren.

2. Vull ser un gran suport per a ells.

3. Cony, què feliç que els vull fer.

Et dones compte de què, el que fas, ho fan. Et demanen, quan ploren venen a tu; et tenen una total confiança. I açò, diguin el que diguin, omple molt.

Llavors, és quan penses, per què no? I comences a interessar-te, a fer el possible per a que s'autosuperin, i veure que en el camí que segueixen, tu ets un pilar.

I finalment, et surt la vena de nena. És ve, en el meu cas, jo la vena la tinc molt sortida, però hi surt més. Comences a fer xorrades, a ballar sense vergonya, a fer carotes, a alçar-los (jo, els judokites no pesen res!), amb la única finalitat de veure-lis el somriure més gran que has vist.

I sí, aquesta és la sensació que em produeix aquesta fotografia; tot un treball, que duc realitzant sense donar-me'n compte des dels 7 anys aproximadament i que mai, absolutament mai, deixaré de cor.
