Sentence: "And his ears still burned with shame."

Author: Phillip K. Dick & Roger Zelazny

Novel: Deus Irae

Year: 1976

The response uses two strong images to portray shame. The downturned face and the accusing fingers create a play between consequence and source. The sentence is used to create smoke caused by his burning ears. The bold images hold the weight of the sentence and the smoke adds the metaphor/ornament. The absence of colour and starkness of white are chosen to emphasise the solitude of shame.

The element I have carried across is the use of red background and a non-standard shape represents blood. Also, I have focused on the word “innocent” as Christopher did.

I am trying to create a bloody image as it is the first feelings I get from the sentence, which are cruel and angry. The font type here used to represent words written by blood. The word “innocent” is in white and broken, implies that the character of innocent has been ruined. Two drops of blood will increase the impression of the image to show the sanguinary. Also, there is a cut within the image, increase the feeling of angry too.
