What a book! Erdrich never disappoints but with this novel - I couldn't imagine one more relevant to the times we are living in and the time before.

My Consultant uttered those wonderful words "Back to cycling, of course you can" A few proviso's though, no rides over 40 miles, no jumping, if I get any tweeks stop and most importantly with my memory issue, don't get lost! Apart from that you free to go and as the sign says, carefully!
We wanted 3 female chickens. At first we thought one of the girls acts like a cock. But meanwhile we fear the worst. The maybe-cock is still very timid. But she/he crows several times per day. Will we have to give him back and thereby sentencing him to death? We wanted to rescue the three chicken from that fate. We live in the middle of a city with over 20.000 inhabitants. We can't say it's the normal sound of the countryside.
This is Carwin Jones. Carwin's eighteen years old. Instead of preparing to play football at college, Carwin's working on an oil rig this summer. He's been charged with attempted murder for his role in a schoolyard fight in Jena, Louisiana, last December. The fight, in which six black students allegedly attacked a white student, followed months of escalating racial tension stemming from nooses that white students hung from a "whites-only" tree at school.
In late June, his friend Mychal Bell was found guilty (by an all-white jury) of aggravated second-degree battery, and conspiracy to commit the same. Like the remaining four boys (one of whom, Theo Shaw, was unable to post bail and has been in jail awaiting trial since December) Carwin is waiting to hear when his trial will begin.
Carwin told me in a brief interview that he'd been looking forward to attending college on a football scholarship. He's spending the summer working on an oil rig.
As an update on the case, I strongly suggest setting your own Google alert for "Jena". MLK Jr. and Sharpton were in Jena recently, and Mychal Bell finally has a strong legal team working for him.
Newsweek did a piece last week, and once again, friends of justice seems to be the best place to read updates.
As an aside, someone broke into my car last week and stole one thing; the voice recorder on which I had an interview with Carwin Jones.

My Jena pictures have been published from Atlanta to Philly, Israel and beyond. The YouTube vid I put together has attracted more attention than any picture I've ever posted anywhere. Two weekends ago, I was interviewed about alternative media and citizen journalism for a station in Baton Rouge on a show called "Community Defender" with Louis and Adrian from the Nation of Islam. They had Amy Goodman on last week, and have dedicated their show to discussing the issues surrounding the case.
What I was most struck by were the calls from radio listeners who had family members serving sentences in Angola for "fighting". Inequity and injustice isn't confined to Jena, it seems.
I'm glad I could play a small part in getting the ball rolling (at least in the blogosphere) to help educate people about the case. It was exciting to see Democracy Now step in with their coverage, and big media is finally paying attention. More soon, as Bell's court date in September draws near.

After we repelled the Droid forces from the landing pad, we received an emurgency call from Bravo Base.
Trooper: "The base has been overrun! A fast blur is killing all of our troops and heading for the archives!"
The blur made sure that no one was left alive to tell what actually happened there. When we arrived at Bravo Base all that was left was ruins and a horrific sight of bloody bodies. He had accessed a file on Ulic Qel-Droma. Wherefor we had no idea.
Muun: "Check for any survivors boys, although I doubt there are any."
Trooper: "Sir! The blur is still here, look!"
Just when the trooper finished his sentence a cloaked figure went past us like a starship going into hyperspace. Strange enought, but lucky enough, the cloaked figure didn´t make any casualties this time.
Muun: "He´s going for the Jedi Temple ruins boys, we´ve got ourselfs into a ghost hunt! Whoever catches him first gets to use the AT-RT on our next patrol!"

A Russian man has been sentenced to two years in prison for discrediting the Russian army after his daughter drew a picture about the war in Ukraine. The girl had previously been taken away from her father because, according to the court, he "raised her badly".
Thirteen-year-old Masha Moskalyova made a drawing about the war in Ukraine in April last year: on one side a Ukrainian flag with the words "Glory to Ukraine". Next to the flag are a woman and child. The woman raises her arm to ward off bombs from Russia. On the other side is a Russian flag, which reads "No to Putin, No to war".
The school the girl attended called the police after seeing the drawing. She started an investigation into her father, Aleksej Moskalyov. For a social media post in which he spoke out against the war in Ukraine, the father was fined 32,000 rubles, now about 385 euros. Subsequently, a criminal case was also filed against him, again because of a post on social media. Since March 2022, a number of new articles of law have been in force in Russia, under which you can receive fines and prison sentences of up to 15 years for spreading "false information" about the Russian army. This law also makes it a criminal offense in Russia to describe the war as "war". According to the government, the correct name is still "special military operation".
The provisions make it virtually impossible in Russia to protest against the policies of the Kremlin. Political opposition and ordinary people who speak out against the war risk potentially being imprisoned for decades. All free media have been silenced.
Moskalyov, a single father, was under house arrest until recently. His daughter was taken away from him and taken to a children's home, they were not allowed to have contact with each other. The father was also not allowed to leave his house when the court decided to limit his parental rights for the time being. The trial will start at the beginning of next month and Moskalev may lose custody of his daughter for good.
The man has now also been sentenced to two years in prison, in absentia. According to authorities, Moskalyov escaped from house arrest last night. His lawyer says he last saw him yesterday. His daughter Masja has not been seen in public since March 1. According to her father's lawyer, she is now in foster care, but could be sent to an orphanage within a month.
That lawyer says that the case only came for political reasons. "The family only got in trouble after the girl drew the picture," he told a BBC reporter.

Despite only being three days in, I think I am actually enjoying my year’s sentence of cooking dinner every night in exchange for not paying rent. I might be singing to a different tune in a few weeks, but currently, I am enjoying it. The thing is, I enjoy cooking and actually, I am not that bad at it when I have some good music playing. Another benefit is that I plan out each week’s dinners, so I can choose exactly what I want to eat, meaning that I do not have days where I turn around and say ‘I do not like bolognaise, so I am not eating dinner tonight’, and because I have other people besides myself to cook for, I am not allowed to forget to eat, so there is at least one meal of the day that I am guaranteed to eat.
Tonight is vegetable soup, so I made baking-powder rolls to go with it this afternoon. I love baking-powder rolls because they are so easy and quick, and work with anything – I filled one with jam before I baked it and ate that for my lunch today.
Did you know that in the US, the 30th December is National Bicarbonate of Soda Day, however, nobody seems to know why? Bicarb is so useful though that it does make sense to celebrate its usefulness.

I have been reading "Haiku" lately which can inspire and get your creative juices flowing in photography. This poetry originated in Japan in 16 Century where in poem 3 lines are put together in way where there are always gaps in between two words/phrase or two sentences and let your imagination run to create or link those words to create an imagination. It bit complex when you think about it but its really simple when you read more about it.
I really like this idea. I think I may use this where by I create an image and put 3 lines of poetry to represent what I felt about the scene kind of in passive way.

Heritage home known as Quinnipiac on Winter Ave. St. John's, Newfoundland. Built in 1884 on a large plot of land. This beautiful heritage home has recently been sold to greedy developers who plan on and have no qualms about tearing down this unique home in the name of the almighty dollar. Shame on all who are involved in this travesty, including an incompetent City Council who let this happen on their watch. Everyone has blood on their hands here. The house is already being stripped of it's interior trims and fixtures and will fall victim to the wrecking ball soon. It was lived in until the sale and is beautiful inside. This was not a derelict property. Which irreplaceable piece of our past is up on the block next for greedy developers?

I was actually shooting for this week's new theme Music for The Teleidoscope.. But afterwards I decited I wanted to make another photo too... I saw this police chain lying around from Halloween and thought of this idea!
Hopefully my Teleidoscope concept will work out better tomorrow!

This was not an easy one, so I decided to work on the just before what is described in the sentence.

Durge. What an abomination. A 1500 year old, unyielding hulk of a muscle mass that took pleasure in killing Mando’s. Please, this was a walk in the park for everyone here in the GAR. At least that’s what some of the squads who went in before us legitimately thought. All along the sewer access tunnels, we were met with bits of plastoid armor and flesh. Whether it was clone flesh or Durge’s we didn’t know yet, that was until we came across an old Alpha class ARC trooper.
“It’s an honor Alpha, but no time for pleasantries, we’ve got-,” and before I mentioned the devil, he had appeared. His deep and gargling voice made itself at home in the humid air then hanging with the stench of death.
“Even with his final breath,” Durge approached while hunched in the cramped tunnel and gestured to the gray haired Fett clone, “this old clone couldn’t muster the guts to tell you what little he could do. You’re going to find it’s a lot harder to kill me-“ The enclosing pitter patter of my squad; Bearer and Pall cut him off. “Well now we’ve got something to play with,” in a motion as beastly as an Acklay’s, Durge surged at us with all of his armored berth. I quickly motioned to Bearer and Pall to take the adjacent tunnel while I’d stand my ground. I pulled my vibro blade and in the instant that Durge lunged his broad hands at my throat I dropped into the sludge. Squatting in filth and waste, I jabbed at the bounty hunter’s face plate. A whirling screech filled the tunnels as he flew over my head and crumpled meters away. Immediately, I flicked my range finding/night vision goggles over my T-visor and silently motioned to the men across the main section of sewage runway. The plan was to take the parallel tunnels as we could easily meet up at the next main junction - which turned out to have been a maintenance overlook. It was a matter of throwing Durge off while he was stunned. As I made for the junction, I heard a slosh and a pound. A slosh and a pound. It was picking up. He was on all fours. I dashed to my right with my back still turned. I pivoted and the moment was there. I latched onto an electrical pole running along the hallway, made it fulcrum, and sprung myself above Durge’s back and between the ceiling. Like staking a flag, I punched my knife right into his right shoulder and pulled using my whole weight. His armored arm was nearly severed. I clambered between his legs as he examined my handiwork. “Not a bad cut, for a droid!” He finished his sentence in bold. He was fuming and he was forcing me onto the maintenance overlook. There, he’d have more space. As I backed and he advanced, I caught a glimpse of Durge’s face. I had cut his face plate clean off and left a gash along his face where he could’ve had a cleft chin. His near tusks of teeth were baring sludge mixed with saliva as he reveled in my killing. The more I damaged him, the more satisfied he’d be. Eventually I was against the railing of the overlook. He consumed the threshold that led into the comparatively cathedral sized maintenance room.
I comm’d in, “Bearer, where are you?” Durge recoiled and made motion to crush my every fiber. I dashed and cut at his right thigh then finished my cut at his shoulder. The bulky arm - with blaster in hand - fell to a thud on the ground below. He spun and gnashed his saber-like fangs. He realized I was simply de-armoring him as I prepared to give him onslaught. He prepared first. He pulled his second blaster and I dove off the overlook. I vaulted the fast current of sewer sludge as Durge made his drunken way off the overlook. As he jumped down, he seemed to have staggered.
“Need fire power!” Pall came to the overlook and a grappling wire flung to life from Bearer’s long rifle. I had Durge’s whole right side torn up and his focus up to this point. Durge was considering just blasting them, but he wanted me gone first. I jumped as high and far as I could at him as Pall opened fire and Bearer rode the grappling line with charges in hand. The charges landed on this back. The fresh muscle of his regenerative arm and leg were writhing in the pelting of plasma blots. His head was adorned with my blade and he staggered away. He fell into the current and into the tunnel. The last thing he did as he drifted was throw my knife back at me, landing in my foot. The pain was numbed with adrenaline and if anything, his Gen’Dai blood was healing the wound. The charges had blown and he was dressed with rubble. With too much to regenerate, and too much weight to lift, he drowned in the waste of a people terrorized by his own treachery.

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.
