This is the first prototype for a dust particle detector. It will be connected to another device to keep the concentration of particles in the air as constant as possible. This prototype still has a lot of problems: the sensor connector footprint is totally wrong, battery connector are wrong, battery protection board is on the wrong side of the board ...

One of a series of camera tosses taken in one evening and collected in this photoset.

Shown in picture: TRV900, 12V SLA Battery (for VideoLight board), 4 AA power source (for PixController Universal board), PixController Universal Board and VideoLight II Board with MR-16 bulb

OK - from where we left off yesterday, I purchased a 12-volt sealed lead acid battery (5 amps) and (with my father's tutoring) spliced everything together in the morning and tested it - well, hitting the TEST button on the board lit the bulb up, so small success #1! I put everything away for the time being and pulled it back out again at night, this time to test the PixController Universal board's flash triggering success with the VideoLight II board. After about 20 minutes (and again with help from my father, who's worked on these kinds of projects before), I had everything wired the way that I needed. I kicked the board's power source on, let it kick the camera off like it was supposed to, ran through the minute-long walk-test mode and then turned the lights out to the room to test the board - the lights on the board eventually went out and I walked towards the entire setup - the board kicked on, showed the red light for a second, kicked the camera on and started recording and then kicked the light board on! Very bright - I definitely think that would be enough light to illuminate the area around the Feeder Project, but one problem with that... it's... kind... of... blinding now... My setup's definitely going to have to differ from the whole "all-in-one" setup if I want to get the kind of shot that I want - if I put the board where it's optimally going to see things in the area, the light looks like it's going to blind them! I don't want that! Of course, this is just in the test phase - I'm sure I have a piece of plastic or glass (or I can get one) that'll cut that back a little, but it's still amazingly bright now!

One other problem, with Stage 2a - the motion sensor's not picking up as much movement as I want, and the pot is turned all the way up to highest sensitivity, BUT I don't have the PIR lens in place yet... that is for Stage 2b! Keep reading for that info...

Parallax PING sensor with cable directly soldered. I ended up having to redo these connections later on after deciding to use a different cable (this is CAT6, ended up using an old serial cable).

Please!!! :(.... Circular polarizer works great someone else needs to clean my

sensor as it appears I can't do it !

Tigers have specialised hairs on their heads known as whiskers, which serve a sensory function.

When the whiskers brushes against something, its root moves the blood, thus simplifying the movement.

Nerves pick up on the movement and send signals to the brain.

This sensor is used to take measurements of salinity, temperature, turbidity, pH, dissolved oxygen and more at ten sampling sites around Washington's Puget Sound and outer coast. Scientists are using decades of this data to find patterns in WA water quality and better understand how humans play into problems like low oxygen and ocean acidification here.

One of my larger small sensor (1/1.6") cameras that I use. Its quite good and gives good definitions, but there's not much controls you can have, so you are pretty much stuck with either the Scene mode or the "P" mode, there is also a "Smart" mode, but I don't trust it.

Not sure if its true, but this is one of the very few Kodak digital cameras that DOES apply their Perfect Touch Technology in both "P" and "Smart" modes, you can see it being added to the photos you take right after they are taken, on the LCD screen.

Here's a good example of some accumulated sensor dust! I've had this camera since 2008 and have used it on and off. I've only recently got back to using it heavily and discovered some spots on many but not all photos. After a bit research I found that it was dust on the sensor. I'm about to have a go at removing it myself with a blower. Haven't used the blower since last autumn when the leaf litter in the driveway was really bad...

A tale of sensor spot woes

An example of sensor blooming caused by electronic shutter in D40. Solution? Stop down the lens to get a longer shutter time (> 1/200 s). The D40x has a fully mechanical shutter and does not display this effect.

The sensor is based on AlGaN/GaN technology and allows the detection of low-ppb levels of NO2 in air at room temperature.

Cleaning the 30D with the Lenspen SensorKlear.

OK, so from the comparison, you can see that the result is not 100% perfect.

With further passes, this could be improved, targeting particular areas.

One this has to be kept in mind, this is with f/32. Who uses f/32 with a crop sensor body, honestly?

The images have also been processed with the purpose of highlighting filth, disregarding any actual photographic application.

So in the real world, this is just simply not noticeable - hell, I could hardly notice the same blemishes on the original sky blue image shot!

If you want to check for dust yourself, and have photoshop, it's a simple process.

1. Choose the lowest base ISO of your camera, for most people this will be ISO 200, even though your camera may go to ISO 100. Select Av mode, with zero +/- exposure compensation.

2. Choose the smallest f/stop on your lens. Most people should manage to obtain f/22, but some lenses allow smaller (darker) apertures.

3. Set your lens focus to manual and dial to infinity.

4. Shoot the clear uniform sky (or overcast).

5. Load the image into photoshop.

b) duplicate layer

c) apply auto levels to the top layer

d) desaturate the layer

You now have a representation of the shadows of where the dust and other crud is on your sensor.

To get a true picture of where the dirt is on your sensor (so that you know where to target), simply flip the image vertically by 180°.
