Seljalandsfoss is one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland as it was notably utilized as a waypoint during the first leg of The Amazing Race 6. This waterfall of the river Seljalandsá drops 60 metres (200 ft) over the cliffs of the former coastline. Seljalandsfoss is situated in between Selfoss and Skógafoss at the road crossing of Route 1 (the Ring Road) with the track going into Þórsmörk. One of the main reasons for this waterfall’s popularity is the foot path that loops behind it, allowing visitors to see its beauty at a level that’s up close and personal. It’s an amazing sight to see!

Wet, wet, wet... To a point where I just gave up. The sun was setting and I tried everything to get a shot from behind the water. Colours were nice in the sky, it could be a nice shot. But the wind... Oh Icelandic wind. I love you so much :)

Seriously, it was more like rain falling over the camera. I think the d800 proved to be weather sealed that day. I had a towel and it got completely wet to a point that trying to wipe the camera was worthless. After about one hour I gave up and did a more traditional shot with anything left that I had to clean the lens. It was worth it.

South Region, Iceland

Seljalandsfoss has its origins underneath the glacier Eyjafjallajökull. The volcano beneath this ice cap was the one that erupted in 2010.

One of the country's most famous and visited falls it is one of the most photographed in all of Iceland.

One of many spectacular, possibly the most spectacular, of the many waterfalls at the base of Eyjafjall volcano on Iceland.

Seljalandsfoss is exceptional waterfall on the South Coast of Iceland. It is located in the municipality of Rangárþing eystra between Hvollsvollur and Skogar below the large glacier shield of Eyjafjallajökull and directly at the junction of the road towards Þórsmörk. The river Seljalandsá plunges 66 meters over the former coastline into the flood plain of Markarfljót, into which it flows shortly afterwards. The waterfall has a pathway that allows visitors to walk behind the cascading water.
