A couple friends of mine playing the new Guitar Hero III game at a party. It was essentially all anyone did all night. This new sort of interactive gaming fits in with the trend in technology toward user friendly interfaces. In the case of Guitar Hero, it makes the game more fun, immersive, and expands the demographic of players from people who normally play video games to anyone who wants to have fun. It's really closer demographically to a board game than a video game, as it can be played a a family or as a group of friends just trying to have some fun.
'i Love what i Do' photo project continues with Nathalie (www.drawlikeapoet.com), a unique and super talented Swiss artist residing in Brighton. I am a huge fan of her work, but also her mind as she has been quite an inspiration for me personally when fighting obstacles and fears of being self-employed and following my dreams. Here are her thoughts from an Open Artist House show she was exhibiting her work at in 2015:
I knew what I really wanted since I was 16. I really enjoyed drawing and so I went to art school. I quit in my third year because the course turned into everything about conceptual art which I didn't enjoy. I stopped drawing and started doing graphic design.
As graphic designer you feel like drawing but it's always commercial things. You don't get the same freedom. I needed to get my creativity back.
I started drawing like what it is now two years ago. I started by doodling and setting my mind free, not trying to correct or be pressurised by anything, and that's what made my creativity come back. Now I just enjoy drawing. I don't get this pressure any more of doing something wrong or comparing myself to somebody else. I just do my thing and enjoy it.
-What makes it possible to live from art?
First of all you have to make art, because if you are just thinking about it without doing anything about it, it is not possible. Start by making art, then polish it and try to show it. If I don't try to exhibit, to show my work, nothing's going to happen. You have to put energy into that and believe in yourself, because if you don't believe in yourself, nobody will. Try and see what happens, even if it's a bit scary.
