Photographed using the Polaroid Impulse AF, and Impossible Project instant film. Taken in my bedroom! It's been a while since I used these, but I hope to play with them later tonight.

I like video games.

Camera used: Beirette vsn

Film used: Kentmere Pan 100

Location: My bedroom!

I just found this picture of my bedroom from my freshman year of high school (1991). Man, I had great taste even back then.

In front of a Sanyo Telecolor TV, similar to the one that my parents first had.

Retro video game cartridge for the Sega Master System. Australian telephone number.

Out Run for the Sega Master System, which I received for my 14th birthday on October 2nd, 1988, and Out Run 2006: Coast 2 Coast for the PlayStation 2, which I purchased using a Future Shop gift card on my 32nd birthday on October 2nd, 2006.

It goes without saying that Out Run 2006 has much better graphics and music, and you can choose from a lot more Ferraris than just the Testarossa from the original, but it's still essentially an updated version of the Sega game that was released in arcades in 1986. And all the classic tunes, "Passing Breeze", "Splash Wave", and "Magical Sound Shower" are still there, in both the new and the original arcade MIDI arrangements, along with some newer music.

Design from sprites of the eponymous Sega Master System video game.

Long before the 3DS, even before the Virtual Boy, Sega had the SegaScope 3D for the SMS. It used active shutter LCD glasses that connected to the SMS card slot to produce a 3D display on a normal TV set. Without the glasses, the screen would appear blurry, with double images, but with the glasses, the playfield would become full-color 3D. Although far superior to Red/Blue glasses, the technology was not a huge success, and only a handful of games were produced for it.

Nintendo had a similar system for the Famicom in Japan, which featured games like Rad Racer and 3D Worldrunner. Unfortunately, that system was never released in North America.

Photographed using Pentax MZ-50 and Kodak Ultramax 400 film. I admit I didn't quite get the focus right with this photo.

I saw this while flipping through the second issue of EGM and thought it might be of interest to some retro-gaming fans.

Such an ugly name for something that was so so cool at the time. This gadget allowed you to play the older 8 bit Sega Master System titles on your new shiny 16 bit Sega Genesis/ Mega Drive. Result... meant you could pack away your old SMS or use it in the spare room instead. Also gave new users access to some of the cool SMS games that were doing the rounds at the time such as Wonderboy, Wonderboy III and Phantasy Star.

this is a pic of some of the shelves in my room. there is a nintendo table top Donkey Kong Jr game I have had since I was little - still works! On top of that is the Galaxy Invader game, also an original from my youth. bunch of games for N64, SNES, gameboy Segamastersystem and Megadrive plus Wii bits n bobs. Middle shelf is a fuse bead creation of mine which has a slightly wonky 'e' - shame...

This would have to easily be one of my most prized titles out of the 400 odd that clog up my shelves. Phantasy Star pushed me into a world of Role Playing Games (RPG) before the term RPG was coined. Sad part was that marketing people in places such as Sega, Nintendo and later Sony bullied and picked on the RPG games stating that they were slow movers. It wasn't till approximately ten years later a game called Final Fantasy VII broke that myth and changed RPG's forever. But before that... this is the title that started it all!

I drew a whale and a llama for the Blip Festival 2008 postcards. Her name is Ahlam aka Winter Whale. She has wheels for feet. The llama's name is Sigwart. It's a drama llama.

I didn't grow up with Nintendo. I had a Sega Master System. One of my favorite things about the Sega was the very cool Light Phaser. It seemed very 'Star Trek' and 'laser tag' to me. I only ever had one game that used it (Safari Hunt) but I enjoyed that game, so it all worked out.
