This morning we had to go to the "Seed Barn" where of course we buy bulk wild bird seeds (80 kg today) for the Galahs and Sulphurs. It's normally called a produce store but we have relabelled it. Bobby is the beautiful Seedbarn cat, he actually lives there. He has a fabulous disposition and we love seeing him....he loves cuddles and scratching his pink tummy, he laid down on the counter this morning, shut his eyes and purred while I rubbed him. Of course, like most members of the animal kingdom these days we are smitten.
Then we went to the Hammerbarn (in Australia and New Zealand), the giant Bunnings hardware chain. I'm not slow am I but as we entered I noticed its logo is a giant red hammer, oh ho, that's why in Bluey it's called the "Hammerbarn"! Der!
Anyway, true to form we bought a new front door mat with Bluey on the front - for the grandkids of course although we don't have any!
Die Installation, die ausgebreitet auf den fast 650 Quadratmetern in der Klee Halle im K20 ausgebreitet liegt, besteht aus über 60 Millionen doppelt gebrannter und handbemalter Sonnenblumenkerne aus chinesischem Porzellan. 1600 Menschen, darunter 600 Kunsthandwerker, haben daran über zwei Jahre lang in Jingdezhen, einer traditionsreichen Produktionsstätte für Porzellan, gearbeitet.
Ai Weiwei untersucht bei seiner Arbeit „Sunflower Seeds“ die Rolle des traditionellen Handwerks im Zeitalter von Massenproduktion und Globalisierung. Der Sonnenblumenkern spielt darüber hinaus auf eine politische Symbolik an: Mao Zedong (ehemaliger Vorsitzender der Kommunistischen Partei Chinas), ließ sich auf Plakaten oftmals mit einer großen Sonne im Hintergrund darstellen. Die chinesische Bevölkerung sollte sich nach ihrem großen Vorsitzenden ausrichten, wie die Sonnenblume nach der Sonne.
Das Feld aus Sonnenblumenkernen ist umgeben von einer fortlaufenden Wandtapete, die über 13.000 Schuldscheine in chinesischer Sprache abbildet. Der Titel „I.O.U.“ steht in diesem Zusammenhang für die umgangssprachliche Abkürzung von „I owe you“ („Ich schulde dir“).
Nachdem Ai Weiwei 81 Tage in Haft verbrachte, wurde nach der Freilassung von seiner Firma die umgehende Begleichung einer Steuerschuld von umgerechnet 1,7 Millionen Euro verlangt. Dank privater Spenden aus der ganzen Welt konnte diese Summe bezahlt werden. Im Gegenzug hat Ai Weiwei die künstlerisch gestalteten Schuldscheine entworfen, die hier als Wandtapete gezeigt werden. Darauf sind neben den Namen der Spender auch Sonnenblumenkerne und Alpaka-Briefmarken zu erkennen, die symbolisch für die Spendensumme stehen. Sämtliche Spenden wurden von Ai Weiwei zurückgezahlt.
Die vielen Spenderinnen und Spender, die sich für Ai Weiweis Bemühungen um Transparenz und Gerechtigkeit in China einsetzten, korrespondieren hier insofern mit den 60 Millionen Sonnenblumenkernen in der Klee Halle.
Auf der Tapete „I.O.U.“ im K20 präsentiert Ai Weiwei zwölf quadratische Bildobjekte aus Legosteinen, die sich wie digitale Pixel zu chinesischen Tierköpfen verbinden. Sie zeigen die chinesischen Tierkreiszeichen vor berühmten Bauwerken.
Warum gerade aus Legosteinen, wurde er im Künstlergespräch der heutigen Eröffnung gefragt. Seine simple wie humorvolle Erklärung: "Weil ich nicht gerne male" ... ;-))

The American goldfinches have lost their bright yellow feathers for the muted winter look. This one is investigating an echinacea seed head for the tastiest ones.
Found in the little private garden for the residents.

Thank you to everyone who pauses long enough to look at my photo, make a comment or Fave it.
Seeds and Capsule of the beautiful blue Hovea elliptica. The capsule develops a hard coat and explodes on a hot day, spreading the seeds far and wide to give the next generation a chance to develop independently.
If anyone can tell me what this seed pod is I would be grateful.
It might be a White Moth Vine Plant.
"Native to Brazil, white moth vine is a vigorous, woody creeper that can smother native plants. It also exudes a milky latex that can cause allergic reactions. White moth vine is listed as a weed in several countries. It is found in South East Queensland.
Fruit:
egg or pear-shaped
6-10 cm long, 3-7 cm wide
pale greyish-green when young
skin thick and ribbed
look like choko fruit
turn brown and woody when old.
Seeds:
blackish
many per fruit
have a tuft of long, silky white hairs 20-30 mm long"
This is the flower/seed of a tree we call Long John. At maturity they turn all over brown, and when the wind blows them off the tree, they spin like helicopters.
TRIPLARIS SURINAMENSIS - ANTWOOD.
Synonym: cumingiana Americana, triplaris weigeltiana.
Common name: vara de Maria, palo hormiguero, pau formiga, long John, mira udu, mulato-tree, tangarana.
Family: Polygonaceae (Buckwheat family).
Overview
Mulato tree is a deciduous tropical tree growing up to more than one hundred feet tall.
It's called long John because it is a very slender and graceful tree!
The trunk is straight and slightly cracked. The thick, hollow branches are divided in segments. Ants often eat the center of this tree.
The small white, male and female flowers are in big compound clusters.
The brown seeds, small square nuts, have wings. When the seeds of this tree fall they look like many small helicopters gyrating to earth. They can be carried away by the wind for many miles before reaching the ground.
In Suriname it's also called "dreitin" which reminds one that when it blooms, the dry season is about to start.
Triplaris Surinamensis is used in Shamanism to prepare Ayahuasca (both a medicinal tradition specific to the Amazonas and a shamanic medicinal brews).
