This is my homemade Homeland Security Helmet. I think EVERY American citizen should get and wear one. Yes, it is actually functional.

I've begun a Photo a Day project, you can view and read about it here.
So, as I said in yesterday's post, we, being Aimee, Jay and I went down to Irvine to go to the Canon Repair Center because Jay was having some line issues for noise compensation I believe. I don't know the correct term, but he was getting lines like a bitch from his sensor, at like barely iso 500. So we head down there around 4:15 pm and arrive at around 5:30. If any of you, which I know most of you do, live in the Los Angeles area, traffic is a bitch. So, we decided to go to the Irvine Spectrum and kill a few hours while the traffic dies down. I've never been to the Irvine Spectrum, but wow. I mean wow. What a humungous place. Goodness, I had to walk around that place so many times. You'll know why in just a second. So, we end up going to eat at Corner Bakery while waiting for Role Models the movie to begin at the Edwards, I believe. I, of course have my camera bag on me and I put it around the chair that I was sitting at. Above us, the fan was spinning so Aimee wanted to move. We moved up one table. So we eat dinner which was amazing by the way. If any of you have never been to Corner Bakery, I suggest you go. The best 7 dollar meals ever. And then after we had back to the car to kill some more time. And as we are sitting in the car we keep seeing security guards drive by for some reason. It's so weird. Also, one thing that we did see was this Asian lady get lost trying to find her daughter, that was interesting because we saw them again later throughout the car experience when she found her daughter. It was quite entertaining. It's been about 15 minutes and we're walking towards the movie theatre, which was when I realized, or thought I realized that I left my camera bag in my car. I head back, and open the back seat and my bag is nowhere to be found. My heart starts pumping and I run back to Aimee and Jay, and tell them that I'm going to head back to Corner Bakery. I go to Corner Bakery and they said they haven't seen it. I look on the ground and make the people that were sitting in our seats get up so I can see. Still not there. So, I'm beginning to tear up a bit, thoughts were running through my head. What I had in my camera bag was a Canon 5D, Canon EF 100mm f/2.8, Canon EF 20mm f/2.8, and a Canon EF 50mm f/1.4. A lot of money for a 19 year old to be carrying around on his back. I was having thoughts about using just film (because I have 2 film cameras at home) and saving up for really nice lenses. I was thinking about Christmas and how I won't be buying anyone anything. It was some pretty terrible thoughts. So I walk all the way to the front where security is. Which is an extremely far walk from Corner Bakery. They haven't seen it. We call every store around and none of them have seen it. By this time I walk out of the Security Facility and definitely feeling terrible thinking to myself how ridiculously irresponsible I am. Just as I am walking back to the car I get a call from Corner Bakery and they have found my bag!!!! And guess where it was, the table behind the one we were sitting at because we moved before. : ) How crazy. I was completely overwhelmed with joy. As well as anger at myself for doing this to. It was a mixture of emotions. I'm still very shaken up by the whole experience to be honest. I've definitely learned my lesson though.
Continuing now about the photo, I'm walking back to the car and I see this extremely interesting security cameras. So, naturally, I start taking pictures of the security camera because it looks fantastic with the repetition in the background.
As I sit in my car, with Aimee in the front seat and Jay in the back seat telling me all the ideas of fundraisers and parties and ideas on somehow organizing a way to get me a new camera and some lenses, we see 7 security cars drive up around our car. The security guard comes out and asks me if I have a professional camera and if I've been taking pictures of the parking lot. Supposedly they have a no photography policy in the parking structure because of copyright issues. He told me, "You can take pictures of your friends, but you can't take pictures directly at the buildings." What a crazy night. I was scared shitless and still completely shocked that I actually have my camera. I thought we were getting arrested. 7 security cars! I can't believe that. For photography. Ridiculous.
By the way, this TTV texture in this photograph was originally DLSDesigns. He came up with the wonderful idea here.
I was going to do a short little update on being 30th in the queue at the Post Office. As I went to take a picture, on my iPhone, a man with in authority demanded that I stop taking photos immediately. No reason given.
Straight after that, an old lady with a dog was asked to leave in the interests of public health (the dog being the problem, not her.) I took photos of him telling her, obv.
I'm not one of these activists who rave on about photographers' rights and I'm not planning on getting one of those "I'm a photographer not a terrorist" tshirts, however there is no need to get so uptight. It's just a post office ffs!
Nb. I processed this with another cheeky little application that is *meant* to make it look like a movie still or CCTV image.

"Yi Camera"
Looking into easy to deploy cameras for around the house. This trial one will sit inside the house above the front door. It'll angle down and pan across two bookmarks.
Deployment was easy and picture good (especially for the price). Now if Yi has an outside camera that isn't too much... need at least one and possibly two.
There's been a lot of incidents in my home town. While it would help if police made more routine patrols, maybe the blatant sight of cameras at well lit entrances/windows will be a deterrent.
This is where I ride to everyday to go to work. Main Street - Flushing, yall. See that buidling named Caldor on the left? It's closed up, and boarded up, and all empty. It sits between a Macys and a Old Navy.
I realize now that walking along the bridge photographing security cameras and close ups of the structural features might have caused a misunderstanding.
The bright red light in this picture was a very bright stobe on the path up Lion's Head (you can clearly make out the security camera higher on the pathway).
There also seemed to be a lot of red light at the parking area.
Anyone know if anything happened that night requiring an ambulance?
(you might have to brighten your monitor if you're using a CRT)

There are a bunch of cameras involved in this shot ... the security cameras, the couples' camera phones, and my brother's Canon EOS 30D loaner which captured all this ...

It amused me that the security camera had to be protected by a metal cage (despite being a good height above the ground).
Fairly easy to guess the location though I think...
