Surreal Sky Serene Secure Street Structured Scene - IMRAN®

(My 195th Flickr Explore!)

Being a late‑night person, I’m usually going to bed at three or four in the morning. So it’s unusual for me to be out walking the dog a few minutes before 6 AM, as I was yesterday, Wednesday, March 4, 2026. That also means I rarely witness sunrise, being so enamored with sunset as I am.

So imagine my surprise when I stepped out the front door and saw this surreal sky above my serene, secure street. I had never seen SpaceX rocket launch after‑effects visible from Apollo Beach before — especially from a launch across the state. Perhaps the upper‑level winds carried the illuminated plume sideways, letting it drift into view over Tampa Bay.

As I took this photo from my front door, I loved how the full moon cast the shadow of the streetlamp across my driveway, creating another surreal structure — an almost symmetric echo of the halo shimmering in the sky.

Great Green Bush-cricket / tettigonia viridissima (nymph). Dunwich Forest, Suffolk. 23/07/20.

A low, oblique view of a sub-adult male Great Green Bush-cricket. I've read they go through up to 9 instars before reaching maturity. This one still had short wings which can be seen extending half-way along the upper hind legs. I've no idea what nymphal stage it had reached here and would appreciate thoughts from viewers who have knowledge of the species.

If viewed large, you can see two rows of sharp spikes on the lower section of the (left) front leg. They look strong and formidable, I assume to aid movement through vegetation as well as secure prey items? Again, further information would be most welcome.

Finally, looking at the front left foot, you can just see two of it's pale 'sticky' footpads. These contain fine branching rods that bend with any pressure on the foot and mould around irregular surfaces. The GGBC secretes a sticky fluid onto them as a further gripping aid. It can walk upside down on smooth or uneven surfaces with ease.

"You gonna keep sucking my magnetic balls or are you actually gonna DO SOMETHING!?!"

ENG: This is how you secure broken houses in Berlin. A curiosity with Berlin charm. A bit broken, a bit weird. The three lashing straps system has been in place for over a year now, since 27 November 2017 to be precise.

What had happened? A (Berlin transport companies) BVG bus of line 100 crashed into the supporting pillar of the corner building when turning off at the junction Leipziger Straße / Wilhelmstraße. The force of the impact tears a formwork from its anchorage. The massive concrete part, weighing about five tons, crashes onto the road and buries a small car underneath it. Fortunately, nobody was injured. Now Berlin has a new landmark.

GER: So sichert man kaputte Häuser in Berlin. Eine Kuriosität mit Berliner Charme. Ein bisschen kaputt, ein bisschen schräg. Das drei Spanngurte System hält nun schon seit über einen Jahr, genau genommen seit dem 27. November 2017.

Was war passiert?

Frederique (stranger 40)

Even as a custom specialist you need a break every now and then. Just leave the store, have a smoke and check your cell phone. A custom specialist? Then you help the customers choose a tailor-made suit and ensure that such a suit fits well, not only in terms of shape, but also in terms of color and cut. If necessary, adjust the length and secure the correct length with pins. Hence the pincushion on Frederique's sleeve. Frederique was sitting outside on a staircase when I took a photo of her. She was fine with it and started laughing kindly. Thanks Frederique.

I have seen locks attached to bridges all over Europe, but I've never seen the sheer weight in numbers attached to the railway bridge over the Rhine in Cologne. There must be hundreds of tons in weight secured to the structure!

Week 2 for the killdeer nest in mulch. This mama's wise choice is working well for her. She kept silent & didn't do a broken wing dance when I walked by. She did stand up so I was able to see all 4 eggs under her. No 2nd parent that I've seen at this location.

Man! That chain is also heavy! And those two barrels were filled with the same type of chain and were not going anywhere. For the whole, detailed story, see my first, long comment, below.

How secure is this slope?

That's a question with a price of one life. For a week after the last snowfall, it was avalanche danger 3, but it regressed now to danger 2. So, it SHOULD be good.

It is never trusting to see that is nobody else on the mountain. But the avalanche conditions were very secure. No risk ! This snow was in fact fully ice crusted and this is probably the reason why the mountain is so empty : difficult snow ! Very fast with a dangerous tendency to block any turning attempt with skis.

There is also a satisfaction to achieve difficult turns and be able to go, even if is not easy.

After securing the load and wanting to get it to a safe place, the Brown Falcon took off again.
