Visited Secret Falls for the second time this week. While I like this shot, it took a long time to get given the partly cloudy skies. I had to wait repeatedly for clouds to block out the sun on the falls but then the clouds passed too quickly to get the exposures I was looking for. But just in the nick of time a larger cloud passed over allowing me to get what I needed.
I was ready to take another shot when I learned the "secret" was out. Numerous families descended on the falls and took it over. I fully realize they have every right to enjoy the falls as much as I do. My irritation comes when I have my camera on my tripod clearly ready to take a shot and they all just walk in front of me without so much as an "excuse me" or "is it ok" just to be courteous.

During my time off this holiday season, I rearranged and organized my studio. I have been wanting to have a corner designated for floral photography and now I finally do.
I was inspired by an exhibition of Mapplethorpe's photography when I lived in Southern California a few years ago.
He has a very distinctive style. I am using it as my baseline inspiration and look forward to seeing where it leads me this year.
Anyone have any recommendations for simple, basic photography background kits?
The wall ain't cutting it! LOL

in a state of slow decay. Printed in 1769. It is barked, cracked, foxed, has mould spots, brittle edges and rubbed extremities, but I still hang on to it.
Taken during a stroll through Woolton Woods. There had been a lot of mist, the kind I thought might suit shooting bare trees against the light. As soon as I got into the woods, the mist was history. I saw this, a wall from an old, long vacated house and looked up at this, one of three boarded up windows. It seemed very spooky indeed, and the damp air made it ever more so. Time to go back to the car and warm up a bit.

This comparison of picture and the object of the picture would seem to be the defining cognitive delight of mimetic art. But there is an intellectual delight even more important than this, and that is the contemplative delight in the object of the picturing itself…

Took a day trip to the coast today. This is Secret Beach (that's it's name, though it's unmarked) a little north of Brookings, Oregon. Didn't really pay attention to tides & we got there pretty much at high tide. No dry beach to walk on here & a county employee who we met in the parking lot had warned us about sneaker waves. We were able to walk on a couple of other beaches though.
