"There is gold and abundance of rubies,
but the lips of knowledge are a rare jewel."
Proverbs 20 verse 15
The Book of Proverbs is dedicated to the believer becoming rich in the Wisdom of God. The Wisdom of God being an aspect of God's Character. Over the years, I've met many people who could be said to be rich in the material equivalent of gold and rubies, but, as this proverb declares, "the lips of knowledge are a rare jewel." How wonderful to hear a great sermon or an insight of Godly Counsel on the lips of one of our sisters or brothers in faith. How beautiful is a timely word!
The good news is that God is massively generous, and He gives wisdom to those who are hungry for wisdom. As James says, "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." (James 1 verse 5)
Let us ask God for the rare jewel of lips of knowledge today - to share that wealth with others, and to receive that wealth from others, too, in the Body of Christ.

“Bear your share of hardship for the Gospel with the strength that comes from God.” 2 Timothy 1:8
MEDITATION
“…Paul tells Timothy, “Bear your share of hardship . . . with the strength that comes from God” (2 Timothy 1:8). Rather than “grin and bear it,” God invites us to rely on Him for the strength to endure the trials in our lives. So ask the Lord for grace today for the specific concern or battle that you are facing. Imagine Him infusing you with everything you need to face it confidently.
“Like Timothy and Titus, you have an important part to play in the Church. So recall God’s goodness and receive His strength today. That way, whatever God is asking of you, you’ll be equipped to respond generously.”
PRAYER
“Thank you, Lord, for strengthening me and leading me in service to others and to the Church.”

Have we discovered the secret of being attractive?
"That which makes a man to be desired is his kindness.
A poor man is better than a liar."
Proverbs 19 verse 22
As a young man, courting, I wondered what made one attractive, but in truth, whilst kindness is most definitely an attractive quality, that's not the context of this proverb. The context is all relationships and what is true for men is true for women: kindness is a noble, Christlike quality that makes others desire to spend more time with us.
The second part of the proverb adds a second noble characteristic: integrity. The Christian Way is to stand by the truth even if it costs us. Better to be poor and tell the truth, than to compromise and think we are going to profit from compromise.
Easy calls to action today: be kind and tell the truth. I'm sure we will all find opportunities to carry out random acts of kindness!

MEDITATION
“…Jesus promises that if we follow His rules—His law of Love, the way of His Cross—we will see “Eternal Life” (John 12:25). No worldly power will ever dethrone us. We will “reign in Life” forever (Romans 5:17).
“Do you want to know victory over the world? Then believe in Jesus, and not just with your intellect. Bow down to Him. Listen for His voice and follow His call to service, even if it seems to go against the “common” wisdom of the world. Believe His promise that “everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted” (Luke 18:14).”

Picking up on yesterday's theme with our Proverb of the Day:
"A man of many companions may be ruined,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother."
Proverbs 18 verse 24
In the great review of Life, I'm certain it will be our closest relationships that we be shown to be of greatest importance. This proverb is in no way criticising our sisters or our brothers but rather stating that there are some friends that are even more amazing than immediate family. To become that kind of friend to someone must rate as one of the most noble ambitions.
To be Christlike is to be a friend that sticks closer than a brother. And what a wonderful concept it is to 'stick' with one another through thick and thin, through good times and bad times, the best of times and the worst of times.
Here's to friendship and to strengthening them today.
