Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”

"Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”

“Which ones?” he inquired.

Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’”

“All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”

Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?”

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

5 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:

1. Like it or not, we are ALL sinners: As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous—not even one. No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.” (Romans 3:10-12 NLT)

2. The punishment for sin is death: When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. (Romans 5:12 NLT)

3. Jesus is our only hope: But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:8 NLT) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23 NLT)

4. SALVATION is by GRACE through FAITH in JESUS: God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT)

5. Accept Jesus and receive eternal life: If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9 NLT) But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12 NLT) And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life. (1 John 5:11-12 NLT)

The Pali Chanting --a stylised oral interpretation of the Pali-language text in the Tipitaka-- was delivered by a team of monks in the Sri Lanka Buddhist Theravada tradition.

Easter is not all bunnies and chocolate. Its a time to remember our Lord and Saviour, what he did for us on that cross. The science of cartography – making maps – developed extensively during the early modern period. Trade, colonial expansion, and piracy alike all benefitted from the increasing accuracy of maps and of the navigational tools used to read them and to plot routes. This interest is reflected in the maps of the Holy Land that we find in early modern Bibles. Readers wanted to locate important locations like Jerusalem and the Red Sea or to plot, for example, the route of Moses and the Jews into exile as described in Exodus.

This map from John Speed's book of biblical chronologies is similar to maps found in some copies of the Bishop's Bible. It includes a large amount of detail, including place names, positions of camps, armies, battles, and holy sites. In the bottom left hand corner we can see the Israelites crossing the Red Sea and the top left inset is a more detailed map of Jerusalem including Mount Calvary and the three crosses.
