Não demorou muito para comprar um pequeno pacote de suprimentos para levar para Sardar, nem foi difícil encontrar um escriba a quem eu pudesse confiar a história dos eventos em Tharna. Não perguntei o nome dele nem ele o meu. Eu conhecia sua casta e ele conhecia a minha, e isso bastava. Ele não podia ler o manuscrito como estava escrito em inglês, uma língua tão estranha para ele quanto Goreana seria para a maioria de vocês, mas ainda assim ele valorizaria o manuscrito e o guardaria como se fosse um bem muito precioso, pois ele era um escriba e é o costume dos escribas amar a palavra escrita e protegê-la de danos, e se ele não pudesse ler o manuscrito, o que importaria talvez alguém pudesse algum dia, e então as palavras que mantiveram seu segredo por tanto tempo finalmente acenderia o mistério da comunicação e o que havia sido escrito seria ouvido e compreendido.

I photographed this Orangutan at Zoo Atlanta, Georgia. Its body posture somehow reminded me of an old monk (albeit a very ugly one) sitting at his work table transcribing manuscripts.

For our contemporaries, the figures of Cyril and Methodius are valuable symbols of the written language and culture of the Slavic community. The iconic system, developed by the geniuses of Methodius and Cyril, in many ways determined the historical path of development of Russian literature. Cyril and Methodius are revered both in the Western Christian tradition, and in the eastern. The legacy of these two saints is so great that the day of their memory is celebrated at the state level in many countries: in Russia, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Macedonia, the Czech Republic.
