A young man working temporarily as a laborer-helper at a house construction project performs one of his several duties - manually screening white sand to separate fine from coarse particles with the use of a strainer made of a wiremesh which is attached to a wooden frame.
Fine sand is used for finishing concrete walls and flooring.

one of my favourite pastimes is people watching.
Our local Starbucks never fails to fascinate me.
I did observe one table of women who spent the
entire time we were there gabbing passionately
to one another with nary a phone in sight.
But most people were looking at their phones
if they were alone and some brought their laptops
and plugged them in to provided outlets.
I wonder how long you can sit in these spots
after you finish your coffee ? We were there around
noon and got to see a sudden swarm of teenage girls
from a nearby school, in pairs and trios, all abuzz,
all wearing almost identical uniforms of sweatpants
and hoodies, all had long hair, all were pretty -
I don't remember so many pretty girls when I was in
school, most of us were plain janes :)
The influx lasted maybe 15 minutes ? there were maybe
30 girls ? most of them had pre-ordered their drinks,
and snacks ... then Poof ! they were gone.
This is the third of the heavy sky day at Mac series. The last agricultural hardware series dribbled down to the odd siding on some of the barns and sheds at McIntosh/Lohr Agriculture Heritage Center. That was on a recent trip when they opened weekends for the season. Earlier, I made a tour on a Saturday, the only real snow day they opened all winter. May brought new loads of snow to the Rockies and plenty of rain/snow mix to the valley. I baled as soon as I could the Saturday morning when I thought there might be snow remaining on the hardware and implements for added interest. I was mostly skunked but I made a loop anyway. Just for the heck of it, I snuck into the milking basement of the McIntosh barn with my normal zoom for a look at the dismal scene from the basement window. I shot this before but they added rabbit wire and the scene beyond is the same stormy sky. Perhaps the rabbit wire is for the birds. Sheesh, I used my monopod! Nothing adventured, nothing gained. That lens really doesn't like to flare. I shot the best balanced exposure of the scene that I could. The morning snow still shows on the foothills beyond the window so it was worth the try.
I shot this some time ago but the bleak, saturated weather scene outside that day prompted yet another try though I had no tripod with me. I guess it was a frivolous concept to try shooting. I need an oil lamp in the window. The Dickens barn is in the scene. Crummy days always happened but the milking had to be done regardless. The winder sill could use some dusting. It's all dust.
The Ag Museum is now open for summer weekends, including Fridays but this is a dismal holiday weekend. It's probably time for another leisurely stroll down to Mac Lake. I loaded up with autumn captures this year in general and accessed the only snows this winter. As always, it's a great spot for exercise and access to Mac Lake. There is always something more at McIntosh but I won't search today. I apparently can't find everything in a single pass. I like the natural patina of the spare shadow tones as they were. There is mystery left in those shadowy tones I extracted.
This was a 2022 W Club Exclusive, she arrived in 2023, she was released from the confines of her packaging in 2026. Once again, I'm asking myself, what took you so long. She is one special Poppy, love her screening.
A very nice Art Deco touch can be seen on these signs outside the Star Theatre in Invermay.

I usually do not like texture on flower petals and take pains to erase it off. But this flower was so out of focus, keeping the texture looked better in an artsy way. I also wanted to try using just one texture. This is Flypaper Textures "Rainbow Trout" used in three blend modes - one Multiply (very lightly erased) and two Soft Lights. Straightened and cropped in Picasa.

I saw a video last night by Bryan Peterson that showed how to make this image, and decided to try it myself. This was done by shooting through a windows screen that was sprayed with an emulsion of water and cooking oil, and an out of focus colorful scarf behind the screen. I used all three of my Kenko extension tubes in order to get close to the screen. The only change I did to Bryan's technique was to aim a Strobie 130 flash through a snoot to brighten up the background. The strobe was in manual mode and was triggered by a Tiny Trigger from scottrobertstudio.com.
